Daft punk led system /help\

Hello guys. Me and my firend are working on daft punk suits and we're stuck. LED system on helmets is the problem. I found some tutorials on YouTube but that metods are very expensive (100€ + ) ( around 140$) but we can't spend soo much money on this system. We made a research and found Arduino Nano chip. It costs around 30 $ but we don't have any idea how to put all together. Im asking u for help , tutorials or schematics how to put LED system into the working stage

It all depends on how far you want to go. The electronics aren't too expensive it's more the time required to solder and program.

On another note one of the original engineers has published some on the original circuit boards online, you should be able to find it in the Daft Punk Forums.

I saw that page but its too expensive. I need to find another way to do it. Do you maybe have PCB manuals for both helmets cuzz shipping would be expensive and I will print them here in our country.

You just need an arduino for control, 74HC595 shift registers for the flashing lights and max7219 chips for the matrix. Manuals for both will show you how to hook them up then you just need a resistor inline with the LEDs.

the datasheets are on those links. They are standard size chips so should be able to use gerber to design boards to use them.

The original circuit layouts can be found here Space-Eight Robotics

You still need to workout exactly what you want your helmets to do, what colours and patterns do you want to make. Then work backwards from there looking at how many LEDs you want to use, the type and size of them and how you are going to fit them all in there.

If it's your first electronics project start out with a prototype board so you can test your circuits first.

The arduino links show how to set up the circuit to run shift registers, it also has the code to use with it.

If you want something cheap and easy get a kids toy with flashing LEDs and pull it apart, there are even little LED message belt buckles.
