D-Projects: Logan's Run-Deep Sleep Gun Builds - Electronic Version

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

Thanks Del. So it sounds like I should be fine without a resistor. I usually run my rebels at 1 amp in my saber, but then my led in my saber is not epoxied in and is easily replaced..... Sigh

Del,

Where do you get your Cree Leds from? And what colors do they come in? Thank you

Todd

Todd, I bought these a while ago. I think they are white XR-E emitters. I think I got them from DealExtreme (EMITTER STAR - DealExtreme). They also carry the high output 1000 lumen LEDs if you want to singe your eyeballs.

LED Supply ( LED : LEDs : LED Drivers : Cree LEDs : Luxeon LEDs : LUXdrive : LEDSupply ) also carries Luxeon and Cree LEDs in mulitiple colors.

Del,

Thank you for the info. Any updates on the completed build? Thanks

Todd

More pics coming today. I painted the blaster yesterday but the resin and paint didn't play nice.

Here we go...

As you can see, the side resin panels seem to have that hammered metal look. Probably due to surface contaminants. I'm planning on replacing the side panels with aluminum plate so that the holster hook is stronger. The flame cone was left unpainted to reflect the strobe of the LED. The picture does not do the strobe effect justice, it is extremely bright and left me seeing spots. This is from a 1 watt LED. I'm planning on putting a P7 900-lumen LED in it's place. I have that LED already and it's blinding bright. I also plan to replace the range selection micro-switch with a long button version so I don't have to use a pin to change the sound banks.

Some additional touch-up here and there and she's all done.

Del,

Very nice. I did not relize you were going for the all silver look. Looks Awesome!!!!! :)

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

Jedibowls - Actually I am going for a weathered look.

Update - I am replacing the resin side panels with aluminum. Here are some pics.

I have started weathering the DSB. In the end, it will have a dull black finish with use wear on edges and what not.. The aluminum plate is .190 thick (slightly more than the resin sides). I was afraid that if I use it with a holster, it might break the screws through the resin. It took about 4 hours to cut and file the side plates to perfection. Many many test fits.. LOL

Are you leaving the white Cree LED in or are you still going to use the Green Luxeon? Looking great so far, especialy those aluminum side panels!

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

@RobIwan - I'm undecided about the LED. The Cree is bright but I know I can get much brighter. I'll have to put a green Lux in there and see how it looks.

Update - Final Pic (weathered/used look)

Note: I did away with the battery terminal plug that appears on most DSFGs. Instead, I put the range selection button at the thumb position. This is also how you reload in the event the blaster runs out of power. And as usual with Plecter boards, this allows access to the Blaster Core configuration menu.

With the addition of the aluminum side panels, the DSFG feels like a real weapon. The weight is just right.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I enjoyed working on this project. :thumbsup

Love the side panels. I am a bit confused. In post #28 the barrel and grips are black and now their silver again. I know "to each their own" but why a silver DS gun?

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

It's the light confusing you eyes. They are black. They are just scuffed up and appear to be silverish.

Great work! I also just built up a much more modest gun from Nicksdad and it made me crazy so I went and ordered one of Rylo's working flame guns, God help me. :)

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

This is awesome! I love it! This is a great "toy" and an incredible prop! Thank you for posting your process and and also the video's This has been a big inspiration and now I'm wanting to build one as well. Would you be willing to share your sound files and offer help if I decide to take this on?

Sure - I also have some 900-lumen SSC-P7 LEDs on order. This thing is gonna be great for Halloween night this year.

Re: Logan's Run : Deep Sleep Gun BCv3 Build

I have ordered a kit from nicksdad and plan to do the same thing as you have. Now I need to get a Blaster Core I already have a white Luxeon LED left over from a Saber build.
You have done a great Job! and the Blaster Core with the Sound effects makes it!
