Cylon Resurrection Ship from new BSG --- Completed

I was excited to be asked to build this model because its delicate design would be a real challenge.
When I contacted my friend from the show to get the studio renders, he joked that the ship was never designed to "handle gravity". Well.. we'll see.

These are renders of what the model will look like when done.

The model will be 24 inches - roughly 1/1500 scale.
I took the unusual step of making the base and stand first and attaching it to the vac-formed central core because as the model progresses it will quickly become far too delicate to handle. For the base, I chose a shape that resembles the diamond profile of the models central core.

The power leads are in a channel routed out, then sealed in the back of the post.
The power jack is in the rear of the base.

A strip of LED's will light the interior as the CG model was lit.

That's an ingenious way to build this model. I'm looking forward to the updates.

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

Nice !!

I will be looking forward to this one..
Great start so far, ingenious stand.!

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

thats going to be one hell of a interesting technological challenge, but i really hope you can pull it off, the resurrection ship was one of the most interesting designs for a ship in recent memory, are you going to have a tinytiny 'Blackbird' in the middle too ;)

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

In the show, not much besides a mesh pattern can be seen inside the ship

I went with the same look by inserting some wire mesh I had sprayed flat black and then backed that up with some frosted clear sheet. This mimics the smoked glass appearance of the CG model.

I found these little faceted spheres that match the ones on the studio model

I'm really enjoying watching this come together, and really looking forward to how it turns out. You also take excellent progress pictures, thanks!

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

I am in awe. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

(I wish I could just have the skills that are located in the tip of your pinky finger. haha)

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

Very cool so far. Where did you get the base / how did you make it?

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

The ship was wickedly cool in the show; will look forward to seeing this progress!

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

Thanks guys! Im glad your following this build.

Auram, The base is lasered from three layers of acrylic. The lower layers have the spaces cut out for the power jack and a trench for the leads. A slot for the vertical post was cut in all three layers.

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

The styrene strip window framing painted to look like tarnished brass.
The very front bit was drawn in Corel and lasered out of paper.

Nice work! This ship reminds me of Cygnus from "Black Hole"; very complicated and delicate. Love the ingenious clear core idea.

One of the two front-lower frames coming together. They will be put on the model later.

Re: Resurrection Ship from new BSG

This little jig keeps everything aligned when assembling the frames for the underside of the ships main body.

Made a slotted tray to hold them all in place for attachment to the model.

OMG.....Jim, I'm just astounded! That side-long glance of the core looks spot on! That's fantastic that you have a jig for each of the lower ribs. Amazing!

Cheers,

Guy
