Crysis Nanosuit - has anyone done one?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

The best way is a sculpted suit, thats cast in rubber. But there is probably little demand for it, so it wouldn't be worth the time and cost to produce it, unless you really wanted it for yourself. It is a cool looking suit though

You don't have to sculpt it all you could do all the armor parts vacuum formed or quick cast urethane and the organic muscle parts is urethane foam layers and tubing and use a hobby burnner and carve the details and textures then use a 65 shore urethane rubber coat it in a few layers and you'll have a badass extremely durible suit cost wise may run you about 250 in materials but you can mold of the original and cast latex cheaper suits and get your money back if you want to sell a few but urethane will last over 50+ years of abuse, as much as I sculpt and love to sculpt it's not always the best option cause some other methods are cleaner and faster and much more symmetrical.

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

the under suit could be done like the Dune stasis suits or like the Colossus armor in X3. I think an approach similar to the Cell would look best.

Sculpting doesn't have to mean clay, so sculpting it is still best. I would use foam as I did in my example, for a one off it would be quick to do and easy to form without the hassle of clay. I think I will do at least an arm to demonstrate this. But to make copys molding it and latex cast would be the best after that. And I see several good areas to break up the suit for better movement.

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I dunno...

You're gonna have to sculpt it, mold it, and cast it... At least from my perspective - maybe I am reading this wrong, but I have to be honest, it looks like everyone is just trying to knock one out - but if you're going to do something, just put the time and effort in to it the right way... Yea it's expensive to do it the right way, but trying to poor-man-engineer something can be sooooo much more expensive...

Not sure if you know who your talking to?? Mark has been building and casting for years. He as some of the best molding skills I have seen. Molds in Fiberglass not plaster, the real way to do it. ;)
Havn't seen you post any of your work yet, mind sharing so I know who I'm talking to and the rest can share in all your work. :thumbsup

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

lol, thanks Clinton:thumbsup, well it looks like I will need to build this then hmmm. I Have used foam to sculpt many things that have been cast and turned into latex or fiberglass parts. But the foam itself can be used to make some amazing wearable parts as well.

And propsculptor what I am talking about can be molded to make copies in whatever material you want, I prefer latex but anything can be cast in the mold. The test piece I showed is very flexable but firm so perfect for a suit that is supposed to look like armor but still able to move. The more I
look at the suit the more I like it,,,Damnit I'm going to have to make it now lol.

NP. :) But you "have" to finish Nite Owl first, I "need" one of those. LOL :lol

Oh I was talking from MY perspective - that's all. Yea I think you're dead on with what you were saying. All I was saying is that when some people try to do things on a quick-scale that they end up doing more work, spending more money and wasting more time... that's all ;)

And to Finhead - No idea who you are, but yea, as my work progresses I'll throw some pics up - I just don't want to put up pics 15 mins. apart from the last up date... I'll prob. have some pics up tomorrow evening - it'll be the first day I have to actually sit and sculpt and not worry about radio - which will be nice LoL

But DarthC - Again, I prob. skipped over it, but the piece you did was a foam piece cut down?? What was it?? Do you think a silicone would work for a suit like this??

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

Yes this is a piece of sculpted flexable foam, If I have the time I will do the chest piece and maybe a video to show the flexablity. As for casting in silicone, It could be done but it is heavy, and really there are a few areas that can be left open with overlaping pieces so no need for the stretch of silicone, or the expense. Latex would do just fine.

Now this is how I would do it, but everyone has their own preference.

Me? I'm nobody, I was speaking about Mark he's been doing this a long time. He's got stuff figured out pretty good. :) And I haven't seen you post any of your work so just curious is all, I like to check out new WIP's. :thumbsup

Now where can one find this foam?? Is it like architectural foam?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

that be one cool build, love the game too! i think i want to build one but with a mixture of the stuff im using.

@darthchiro cant wait to see your project unfold :D

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I rarely use clay but it wouldn't be sculpture work as is fabricating but it's still a better result I've been building props all my life third generation in this business it's a lost way of doing things but will give you the best result and remeber foam latex wont last the light and UV's cause it to rot same as silicone and latex, urethane will last far longer then anything.

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

you guys sure the best way is to use foam? I don't know why, but looking at the suit I'd think at something else...even if I don't have a clear idea...how about fake leather? with foam (the one inside couches, really really soft), sewn to create the muscles and then painted? That would be really easy if you have someone that can sew.

Could it work?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I could give it a go if there is enough interest. I did a quick test this morning, rough shape and paint, the base of the paint needs to be a darker grey than what I used, but this suit is doable.

Did you make the exagon pattern youself? if yes, what did you use? Thanks :D

Not to mention the cost and equipment needed to run foam...

You could run a Smooth-On Flex 5 foam and it would work that way - but why the faux leather??
