Crysis Nanosuit - has anyone done one?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

Hey, I saw over at the 405th a topic on hot glue and aqua resin instead of fiberglass and bondo/resin for pepakura. This might give the extra flex to armour parts that fiberglass might not??? Would be awesome to see one of these.

:O could you link me to it ?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I noticed that there are no Crysis Nano-suits!

Why is that? is it because its too hard to make since its 1 complete suit and no armor parts??

The best way is a sculpted suit, thats cast in rubber. But there is probably little demand for it, so it wouldn't be worth the time and cost to produce it, unless you really wanted it for yourself. It is a cool looking suit though

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

Oh man - one investor is all i'd need to make it happen ::Evil laugh::

After the MMPR Suit who knows - I'd love to take this on... It'd be a bit pricey, but it'd be done :)

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I can think of a few ways to make that :) Just got introduced to a product new to me over the weekend ;) A two part foam that you can embed in fabric- haven't tried it but it would be one option.
Another would be in latex, luckily there are enough segments that it could be achievable as a series of flatback castings glued to a suit or fully sculpted as a few larger pieces.
It could also be built from a mixture of fabrics and padding to mimic body armour more- you'd need to go for fabrics used in sports and outdoor pursuits to look good though! I got lucky recently and scored a length of rubberised fabric from a sportwear factory- it is genuinely rubber coated not a PVC/PU coating.

Eiko Ishioka explored a suit of muscle idea several times. The two most famous are the red fibreglass armour in Dracula and the red latex bodysuit in The Cell but she also used it on stage as a bodyusit- padded fabrics- for a Beyrueth production of Wagner's Ring operas. In each case it was an exploration of technique to suit the application. Here is an opportunity to explore a few methods too ;)

Someone should really try making this!!!

@ Tachyon tnx for the link btw..

@ MDB, Why dont you give it a shot o_O ?

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

I could give it a go if there is enough interest. I did a quick test this morning, rough shape and paint, the base of the paint needs to be a darker grey than what I used, but this suit is doable.

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

Do the suit like the Alien costumes from ALIENS. All you'd need to do is carefully apply foam/rubber pieces onto a spandex suit or black leotard. You would probably want to use an approximate sized mannequin so the suit will fit you well if you plan to wear it.

Thats exactly what I did with the test piece, even If it was to be molded it is quicker and easier to sculpt it with the foam pieces, since it can be physically tried on well its being sculpted

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

When I first saw this suit, I fell in love with it and thought it would be awesome to create IRL. But it is definitely a big challenge. Trying to make it cover you from head to toe and be form fitting enough so it moves with you well...if anyone wants to take this on please post! I would love to see this.

I think silicone would be nice for movement but might be too heavy and bad for releasing heat. Foam latex? Very hot but definitely lighter than silicone.

darthchiro, it looks like you might be on the right path. ;)

I just came across this, a front and back pic of the suit from Crysis and Crysis 2. You can see the 2nd one is a bulkier/more muscular suit.

Woow Dartchiro!!! thats rly nice o_O!

But how would you wear it? because as you can see the suit is made out of 1 complete set, not like seperate armor ets, its a jumpsuit so to say.

and if you make it out of hard material you cant rly move in it.....

Re: Crysis Nanosuit

Having looked a bit closer at this suit, the material for the main costume looks a little like the leather used in the manufactor of some leather car seats!? maybe an idea to look into, I don't know, only a suggestion. But this is an awesome costume for someone who really wants something to get the crowds gasping at cons etc.

Maybe have the leather fabric laid of foam padding to give it a beefier look to the wearer of lesser musclarity and have the armor joints and fittings in glassfibre. It would take a serious amount of time and effort, especially making the templates for the leather and foam work for the suit and a lot of sewing know how too! I noticed that some said that they have the pep files for the helmet and goggles? Maybe have a go at that first, maybe if some does the helmet etc, then maybe someone will give the rest a go? who knows? If the demand comes in for such a costume then we might be lucky enough to see it for real at con's in the future?

oh and I would love to see the pep files for the lid and goggles aswell!:love
