Cowboys & Aliens - Jake Lonergan Gauntlet Weapon

I hope we see more pics soon! This is the first pic from sdcc of it I've seen.

I also located what looks to be the proper pattern for his vest today. Walmart carries it, and its Newlook brand, #E6839 The pattern is the "B" style, but with the "A" pockets.

Now to con the wife into putting together the vests for us. ;)

That would be too cool. So where do we send the flowers and candy?:love

She already has the pattern cut out as I type this. I also bought enough material so she can make the female version of the vest as well. ;)

I was nice and also got her a 7-11 gauntlet cup as well. ;)

And a video of it in "action":

Obviously not the best build out there, but good enough to wear to the premiere!

The two metal wires that aren't originally part of the cup are there to hold it closed around my wrist, I couldn't think of a better way for free.

Both your and zlurpo's handles look good...that might be a good idea. (I hate wasting parts as well.)

Was adding the handle switch to it nothing more than adding longer wires to the ones that go to the switch, and then soldering them to the new push switch?

BTW, has anyone seen any good pics of the prop that was on display yet? I've seen everything at SDCC BUT good pics of the guantlet yet.

Also, someone who was at the premier last night said the movie rocked! (Good news!)

I just found this as well.. a vinyl prop version!

I ran all new wires. The momentary buttons control the led bar up and down. But you definitely could run longer wires from the switch to a momentary switch.

I'm working on that HUD right now. The lights I'll be adding are from those cheap flashing led halloween necklaces. I figured out how to remove the ghosts from them, and they have 3 different lighting modes. I'm thinking for a simple quick mount, I'll put an oval opening in the gauntlet, and a cut of clear pvc tube. That should be able to hold the leds, and double as a compression mount for the hud.

Assuming that works, my HUD will be easily removable. If not, I'll see i I can cobble up the led/hud holder from scrap plexiglass.

The jury is still out here is I want to marry two light up halves, or if I want to use just one 7-11 cup. I'm also pretty sure I saw tiny hinges at Lowe's that could be used to make and openable gauntlet.

For a catch, I'm hoping to glue a it of scrap plexi or styrene on one half with a small hole on it large enough for a coat hanger diameter wire cut. if I drill a hole in the bottom half, in theory, that plexi could come down over it, and settle with the coat hanger cut in it's matching hole. To open it, I should be able to use the plastic's flex to either pull that plexi part away, or squeeze the bottom half in, releasing that catch.

We'l see if my cleverness pans out, of if its just a garbage idea.
