I've got some old WAV formatted clips of TOS Cylons that I'd like to convert to MP3 for a new costume. But, I'm not having much luck as it's not recognizing what must be a pretty old CODEC. Can anyone point me to some help?

There's a program called "Right click MP3". It'll convert wav files to mp3's and vice versa. It's free, and it lives in your right click menu in windows, which makes it super convenient. http://www.mp3-converter.com/rightclick_mp3.htm
In general the license owners have left the FREE software companies alone, in hopes to spread the use of the technology... But, yes technically anything that decodes or encodes MP3 is supposed to be licensed...
