Constantine Brass Knuckles

if it's possible to make brass casts from that acrylic master, we may be on a roll...

You would make the molds from the arcylic master. Question is who does brass casts :)

Thomas

If you have an acrylic master (which will need to be increased about 7% to compensate for shrinkage of brass when cast), you can sent that of to a foundry and have them make molds and do lost wax brass castings for you.

The cleaning and polishing of the brass casts is where the fun will be, i should know as i am currently cleaning up 12 brass 'Voyagers' omnis :)

Tim, that is beyond words, hands-down, awesome. :eek

I'd be happy to do the 3D CAD model if I can get a correctly scaled DXF or AutoCAD file of the profile and the correct thickness. I could probably add the deep cross-shaped depressions between the fingers as well if I have the correctly scaled 2D file and approximate depth (or I could eyeball it and we can tweak it as needed before blessing the final model ;) ). Wouldn't take me more than a couple of hour, tops. :) The text and artwork, however, would have to be applied to the 3D model or to the physical part as a secondary operation.

I'd definitely want one if it will be made of brass, bronze, or gold-plated aluminum, zamak, or steel. Resin: uh-uh. Contact Clay (appliedmetal) for details - this is totally up his alley, since he has direct access to PowerMill, MasterCam, and ArtCam.

Man, I need to see this movie now.

I have to wonder though...brass knuckles in general aren't an overly legal thing to own, so should I as a California resident be wary of obtaining one of these given the extra cautious weapons laws out here?

That's what I'm concerned about. If someone can produce a master, I can get it made in brass--the larger master is a great point to consider. I'll have to get an exact shrinkage rate, but whether or not the shop is willing to produce brass knuckles is a different issue that I'll know the answer to shortly.

I'm in California too. It's not about OWNING brass knuckles - it's about CARRYING them. We can all have 10" Henkel chef's knives in our kitchens, but we can't carry them in public unless they're wrapped in a chef's knife set or packed in the original box...

As for shipping these to California, if you were a company, you'd probably be unable due to liability issues, but as a private person? I wouldn't be concerned at all.

franz bolo: That's brilliant. :eek Really terrific work. And I completely agree with your decision to idealize the weak pinky side.

Okay, I can look into making this, but I'd need to know who will 100% commit to it.
synasp: I'm definitely in... assuming the piece is made from one of the metals that Prop Runner listed and not resin.

TimDrakeRobin: Great picture, dude. :thumbsup

I am so pleased this project looks to be a go.

Thomas, what do you need to make the acrylic masters? Lets get that figured out while I get an exact figure for shrinkage.

There is no "interest" thread yet, but if these are made, it wont be anything but brass.... they're not called aluminum knuckles, or resin knuckles. ;)

I need an Illustrator file or EPS. I can use others too but these are the best for my needs.

I talked to some people this morning. I'll keep you posted after we talk some more about different processes.

thanks guys..

Okay, I'm told that brass typically shrinks 3/16" per foot. So I'm guessing shrinkage will be somewhere around 1/4"? Not too much.

Will try to get an estimate on price soon, then post an actual interest thread in the JY.

And for all of thoise who have send me items to look at for the CNC work--I have been going through quite a bit of personal issues lately. I havent forgotten anyone. Just need to get through all of this and will be back in the saddle.
Clay, if you have any outstanding projects, it would be best to finish those first before taking on any other project, big or small. The offer for help is appreciated though. I hope everything's okay with the personal stuff.
