Thanks for the replies, guys...

I'm right in there with you. I am not a metal worker, so cutting metal wing panels is out.

But my plan IS to run square brass "tubing" (is it tubing if it's square!?) along the inner edges of the wings. In my experience, it seems the square tubing is structurally stronger than the round.

I am going to use three sizes, telescoped. The stock wing gets thinner out towards the cannon, so by telescoping down to a smaller tube, I think I can sort of match the depth of the wing (Rider knows what I'm talking about here)... Plus the telescoped tubes will be much stronger than a single tube.

I do like the idea of covering the square tubes with sheet styrene cut-outs. Would add accuracy and cover the brass...

I've been struggling with this idea as well, good to see you posting regular updates on this again! Funny, because I just started working on mine again a few weeks ago...

Sorry guys - pics will need to be tomorrow. But I finished four out of eight spars.

Hardest part is hogging out the plastic in the toy's wing root to accept the new nested brass tubing spars.

OK here are some pictures of my approach to the wings.

In the first pic I've boxed out where I cut into the wing root to install the brass spar, and in the pics that follow, you can see the telescoped square brass tubing spars in place.

After the wings are installed permanently, I will overlay the brass with sheet styrene to replicate the proper look of the interior wing surface.

For the newbie:angel, what are the last two.
And if possible, is there a brief story of their existence in regard to the filming miniatures? As an outsider I hear lot about -taken from an original cast/mold-

--Ertl mid-sized (classic)
--Ertl electronic
--FX toy
--Captain Cardboard
--Maxi-Brute model rocket

The CC was custom-fabricated (not molded off an original)

The Maxi-Brute is reputed - or suggested - to have been taken off an original, but this has not been proven. The Maxi-Brute is - in my opinion - the closest we have (disregarding it's lack of surface panel detail) to the original.

For being a so-called toy, it just looks right, at least the fuselage. I think some rework to remove the toy aspects and a top notch paint job you would end up with something to be proud of especially for the price. I just purchased one off ebay for ten bucks and I am going to give it a go. If its lineage to Icons is correct you know its in the ballpark.

All right boys and girls... here are the latest pics.

Getting this bird back together -- permanently -- is very encouraging. I'll start doing the wings tomorrow, then on to the crowning nose cone.

Note the butt plate -- it is the stock piece with many holes filled, and a couple pieces added from some quick and dirty casts.

She's got wings!

This shot shows both the sing spars installed, plus a styrene layer to take it back closer to the studio model. The wings are held in place via a combo of JB Weld, CA glue, and the metal spars...
