Limited Run CLOSED: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

What are the dimensions of the middle grip and upper grip area? (circumference preferably)

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Very interested if the price comes down.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

I'm interested no matter how much the price comes down. For this saber, I really want quality over everything else.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Definitely keeping my eyes on this, waiting for the revise pricing. Around 400€ would be doable for me. Would these ship from germany (or europe anyway) ? That would mean no customs fees for me, big plus in my book !

They would ship from Germany.

Yep I make them for people all the time.

You might be getting some additional business in the future then! I'm looking at and have the files to offer a 1in and a 7/8 option for people, depending on what they want. Not sure if there will be a cost difference, will have to wait for the machinist to come back.

Nicely done I must say. What LED would you recommend for the side blades? What about a heat sink?
There is a lot of research done in Guabes V5 thread (linked at the first post) for people who have lit the 3d printed version up already

When do you expect to start taking payments?
I'm hoping to start this week once I get the final details form the machinst

Love it!

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

As far as 7/8" blades go, please keep in mind that the part where the LED goes should IMHO still be 1" in diameter. There are several providers of 1" dia. LED heat sink modules and they make the LED install and removal sooooooo much easier. If you went 7/8" dia where the LED goes, the install for the LED, optic and heat sink would not be anywhere near as install friendly. Just a suggestion.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

I've just signed up. I'm in! :)

i guess that that means I'll be building my korbanth graflex 2.0 as TFA version to match! ;D

A stepped emitter section with a 7/8" screw in collar would LOCK a blade in (7/8" with 1" adapter) and eliminate the need to have a set screw. Also allow for a display plug that would retain the small opening look of the prop.

Just a thought

I would disagree, they are fairly readily available... I have 4 7/8 heatsinks at home. Saber specific sites usually have runs of them (especially around Korbanth runs)

EDIT

Is the Chassis that was developed for this included in the price?

Interesting seeing as how the star shaped PCB of the LEDs we use in sabers is almost exactly 7/8" in diameter at it widest. Do you have to grind/file/sand the PCB somewhat to fit and how do the wires pass through? If you could post detailed pics of this heat sink module, how it assembles and how it manages to fit over a 7/8" dia. PCB and secure it while still being 7/8" in diameter itself would be awesome as I may be interested in acquiring some. Thanks.

I don't remember who did the run, but I'm pretty sure there was over 140 on the run I was on... Mind you, I haven't been on FX for a while

Nice. Thanks. I don't have that particular LED and mine are a tad wider (just measured them again) but with just a little bit of filing, I'm sure I could get mine to fit.

There's a few mm to spare on single rebels... I don't have any try-crees on me at the moment, but i think i remember fitting the star into it. I think it was one of the LED suppliers on FX that did the run

Definitely interested pending final price! Filled out the form.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

I have Gustavo's V4 finished but god this has been tempting me since you posted it. Pending price I'm interested!

The chassis will not be included in the pricing. I have run the chassis through the shop and they have quoted me 50 Euros to make the chassis. I think shapeways has it around $70, or it can be home printed, since it doesn't have to be pretty.

I'm starting to get a little nervous about everything because if I start adding options to it, like 7/8 plug and 1in plug, individual parts and extra options, it increases the chances of me ferking things up somewhere in the distribution process.

I'm going to have to think about the line between options and too much trouble.

I might be interested, pending final price.

Ok, so the current news is this.....

The price has gone down when making a hybrid saber. All of the structural and core components are CNC aluminium. So the pommel, the grip, the emitter, the 2 quillion, the blade sleeve, and the switch plate will be CNC. This represents the core of the saber, and basically every single part you will touch. The saber will be fully duel ready and strong like bull.

The resin parts will be the detail parts. Parts you're not going to touch on a normal basis and printing also lets us get a very fine level of detail on the parts like the cutout on the top and the exposed core at the bottom.

The big news is the price should be at max, 450 Euros, so we have dropped down 100 Euros per saber from before.

I'm still pending the quotes for the machined parts but I got the price for the printed parts, and was able to subtract their price from the CNC price to get the numbers. It may go down a little bit more still but I'll reserve this final price for the quote from the machinist.

My goal is to get this at 400 euros.

So if you were waiting to sign up for prices to drop, wait no longer! The faster the list fills with people the faster I can get the deposits to the shop and the faster they can start producing these things.

Once I have the final quote and have sussed out the final price and negotiated it down as far as I can, I will be sending out emails to those on the list, and accepting payments.

Any options that I can work in will also be there in the form.

So sign up, get it on.

If we can move quick enough I will be taking delivery of these in mid April to ship to their new owners.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Great news! Is there anyway to verify the form went through?
