Chewbaccas bowcaster build...FINISHED!

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Yes several coats its very smooth. Needs more prep work with the filler i suppse.just have to keep at it.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

so mixed up some filler and applied it to the front of the bowcaster body on both sides to try to even it out. The other picture is all the parts i have made and most are painted. Used satin black on the pink balls and the bow. Everything else is painted flat black.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

So as far as the D ring for the back of the bow is it just white string wrapped around the leather part or is it black wire. Ive seen it both ways and not too sure which is right. The white string looks to white to me.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

On mine I used coarse white string , held in place by glue . Then I weathered it with brown and black paint , looks fine now.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Thats a good idea. I found a roll if string in my garage tgat i think will work well. May use coffee to age the string further. Its funny you posted to my thread. I just started working on this again! More fixing of cracks in the filler and sanding. Was just priming spots i fixed.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Hi all
painted my bowcaster frame...... AGAIN!!!!! Was looking real good....was till I dropped it! Every trouble spot popped out after. Most trouble Ive ever had building a prop. Im so mad at myself for this im thinking of shelving the entire project. Ive put a lot of time and energy into this. Really want to finish this and dont want it getting the best of me. Heres a pic before I dropped it.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

If it needs a new paint job why not get it powder coated would look nice.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Not sure where to get that done around here. I did spend a few hours wet sanding. Trying something new with the cracks in the filler..... I made the cracks bigger and cut a v into them with a razor. Then sanded and filled with spot putty. Well see how that does.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

So ive been fixing the cracks in the filler. The cracks are a result of too much being applied. As the filler dries it shrinks a little i think. So I tried opening the cracks a little wider and filling them with glazing putty. I also tried filling them with jb weld. The jb worked really well and sanded very well. I applied glazing putty over thie jb weld and did not wet sand this. This worked much better.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Hi all.
Had off today and spent most of it sanding and priming the bowcaster. Just finished final sanding before painting with satin black. It been a battle to get this thing smooth. Crossing my fingers that this is the last time ill have to paint it. Any imperfections show now calling them battle scars! Lol

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Feel like the boy who cried wolf here but I painted the bowcaster satin black. AGAIN! Lol I do not see any areas popping out. (Crosses fingers) just have an issue with the overspray creating a rough surface on certain areas. There are a lot of different angles on this thing and it seems to be hard to keep a smooth paintjob. Once its dry Ill try to polish the rough areas with car wax

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Hello all!
heres some progress pics of the Bowcaster.Im really happy with how this is coming out despite not having the Horton magnum. Ive got allmost everything assembled. Intjink my barrel is a little long and i realized i never drilled the second hole in the barrel support! Lol
No trigger yet. The paint has dried enough for me to handle but im trying not to handle it too much. Some of the black paint on the frame had a sandpapery feel. Used a cleaner/ wax and it smoothed it out. Leg me know what you all think. The pics arent the best. The lighting in my garage is not great and some of the detail is hard to see. Once i finish it tomorrow ill take some pics of it outside. Enjoy!

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build

Looks real nice! Seems like you may want to increase the arc of the bow, though.

Re: Chewbaccas bowcaster build...Almost done!

Thanks! I know from my research that the ANH version didnt have the string on the bow so i tried to simulate the curve of the bow without the tension on it. Ill keep looking for good reference pics and see if i need to curve the bow more. Thanks for the advice.

Gotcha, makes sense.

Yeah, adding the string is really stupid, I think. What's the point? They are laser blasts, not laser arrows! Of course, what is the point of the crossbow design for a blaster if it doesn't actually shoot arrows?

:wacko

A little (copied from) Wiki for you:

The weapon used metal quarrels enveloped with plasma energy as ammunition.

Two polarizing orbs, balanced on each end of the bow, created a magnetic field that boosted the quarrel's momentum. Once the cocking spring was pulled back, the trigger fired the quarrel, which was enveloped in plasma energ
