Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Pre-release)

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I'll give it a look next time I'm at the comic shop! Thanks.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Hurt Locker and Real Steel actor Anthony Mackie discusses the backstory of his character, The Falcon:

"I'm playing the Falcon. He's this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers. He's the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I've done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That's a huge honor for me."

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

sure, first african american hero

lets forget about war machine or nick fury

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

^ He's the first African American superhero in the comic publication timeline, first appearance in 1969, well before Rhodey (1979). Fury (1963) does supercede Falcon in appearance but one can argue he's a super spy, not a superhero... plus he was as white as David Hasselhoff when he first came out ;)

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

yeah but thats not the way they were talking about it. as he said: now my kids and nephews etc have someone to idolize.
thats just plain ignorant imo.

I interpreted Mackie's comment as simply being proud to play the first superhero with his racial background, as opposed to looking down on the idolization of white superheroes by non-white people, particularly those in his extended family. I never saw Mackie's comment as taking away anything from the on-screen Rhodes and Fury. If anything, he's got a bit of an ego, pretty common among actors, but hardly fuel for racial controversy.

This is not the appropriate venue for racial debate, so I'll leave it at that.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

That is good for him. With predominately white super hero's, everyone can say to a black person, "Your Punisher costume looks great...."

But now people can say, "Your Falcon looks great AND you look the part."

It's worse that it's taken this long for a black super-hero to get some play. Hell, when we get a black man as the main super-hero in a film, I'll be happy if that guy or gal tells us how he feels like a badass for being the first African-American with his own super-hero flick....(Meteor Man, Steel, Spawn, etc., DO NOT COUNT[Spawn is a Anti-hero]):popcorn

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

im waiting for a feature film for black panther ;) thats the one that counts most for me, but thats just my oppinion

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Black Panther was always one of my favorites!

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I was also hoping for a solo Black Panther movie as part of P2 but with the current film slate AND the Avengers Assemble cartoon reboot (or non-reboot? who knows) replacing Avengers EMH featuring a roster with Falcon instead of Panther, I find a Black Panther intro unlikely until P3.

Cartoon doesn't necessarily have to tie in with the MCU but you gotta figure DXD and Marvel Studios are talking to each other about their rosters.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I love the Winter Soldier character, and have so many things I hope we'll get to see in Cap2. Also was really happy to hear Sebastien Stan was going to be back to play Bucky. From other things I've read/heard the aim is to also make it a man out of time story for Steve, where he's officially recruited as an agent of SHIELD. There were rumors floating around about a SHIELD spy movie, but then some news releases alluded to the Cap2 movie including SHIELD characters (Fury, Coulson, Hill, Romanoff, and maybe even Barton) because of the studio can only release 2 per year.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Casting call for Agent 13? I thought that was the lady who was there when Cap woke up at the end of First Avenger? Or is there a "recast" lol

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

She was credited as "Shield Agent", so Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter's role has not been played by anyone so far.
