Captain America TFA Build (WIP)

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Know you are narrowing down the suit first but what are your thoughts on the helmet?
I have been thinking about the paper pep and fiberglass route.

I am sure that you have seen these but here seems to be a great source for the belt.

Sandman is well....being true to his name. Ken Gossett built and dyed a belt also.

For the boots

That covers all bases except the cross belt and two leather pouches. There are (20) round 308 leather pouches that look close on e-bay but only one hasp not the two.

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

The helmet I'm going to go for one of "deckard1971" i think his name is. He is selling them in the JY and they come in kit from will leather straps etc and look pretty accurate and are around my head size.

Sandman's belts are awesome but I don't think he has any left also I read in one of this threads he's in Afghanistan serving! Had a reply from the option 1 company that Finhead thinks is the best the leather on the suit is brown however the lighting makes it look black. Just waiting for a from hello cosplay then I can make my ultimate decision on the base suit..

Boots are my next worry but there a site in the UK called Solider of Fortune and they sell the replica ww2 brown leather boots

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Both companies can do the costumes the way I want, now I am stuck!
guys help please :D

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Being point-man your out front and alone. Hard Choice.

Suit #1 Dream Cosplay. Stitching on the shoulder pads, based on their photos, is wrong and is missing the gray vertical strips on the back.
The shoulder pads appear larger that Suit #2, it has a star buckle, the pants have patches on the front. The belt has eyelets on the back and maybe a good buckle.

Suit #2 Hello Cosplay. Even if they have agreed, have yet to see their fixed back, not just the single strap but blue panel and gray strip. The stitching of the shoulder pads is correct but the pads appear smaller than the movie suit. The pants appear to have only stitch lines no actual patches and the belt is missing the eyelets.
The plus side is we have seen what PunisherNC did with this suit and it looked good.

I'd go with Suit #1. Reason: The top blue part doesn't appear attached to the white. Only mods, Add the chest star, re-stitch outer shoulder pads and think it would be easier to replace the sleeves with the off white harringbone.

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

I've got Suit #1 on it's way, it's my first costume attempt, I have had a guy here in the UK make the chest star for me and he is also goin to do the shoulder stars for me, I have ordered an amazing helmet from Reevz FX which as been shipped today, I used these boots (I know not movie accurate in hight etc but it was the best I could find at a reasonable price for now) H&M Black Military Combat Biker Vintage Buckle High Top Boot Designer UK 9 10 43 | eBay sanded them down and sprayed them brown.... and for my shield I have bought the metal deluxe shield and resprayed it with anodised metal paints and making the center star movie accurate in design, it's abit flimsy but will do for now till I can afford the splash out on the alluminium ones.... I also purchased a replica 1911 gun for £15 too which was a bargain.
I intend to try and get the padded affect on the shoulders by resewing them with foam pads underneath to give the effect from the movie.....

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

could you pm me the details of the bloke in the UK with the star please
also would love to see pictures of suit #1 when it arrives

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

I will post you a couple pics here when it arrives, I'm expectin it to be a couple of weeks as it's coming out of China and was sent on friday (or so they tell me) ...... the guy who did my chest star is called Laban and you can get in touch through his website 4thWD - Home - you won't find the star on the site though, just contact him and ask about it and I'm sure he can help you out :)

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Thanks mate.. Hopefully Suit #1 will be the correct colour straps for you as they looks black in the picture but the seller reassures me they are brown its just the camera lighting.. but if all is well I will be getting costume #1
Found the boots I want on eBay for now shield is sorted :D I have the spun aluminium shield this will soon become my build thread.
Its worth spent out on the aluminium shield they are awesome

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

yeah I figured I will just use the same brown spray I used to turn my black boots brown on the belts etc if they are black, but yeah I do believe they are actually supposed to be brown and not black, I will find out soon enough, but it can be easily rectified to a satifactory shade of brown.... as I say it's my first time putting a costume together so I'm not expecting mine to be 100% movie accurate, I just want it to look cool...

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

I got mine from eBay from here a link to one from the sell i brought from

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

yeah they look amazing when they are finished!!! but with the money I have ploughed into this costume in recent weeks (suit, helmet, gloves, belt, paints, star) I had to go the cheaper option for now, I say cheaper... £62 for the sheild then £30 for the paints still nearly a ton lol!!
I'm hoping to improve on pieces over time (belt, sheild etc)

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

which helmet did you go for? how much was the star? also are you changing the belt and gloves from the one provided with the suit? if so what are you changing them too ?

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

I have gone for the one Shawn Reevz of Reevz FX does, it's awesome!! can't wait to recieve it.
I paid around £20 for the chest star......
I may change up the belt at some point, I'm goin to see what it's like first, I was offered one made up, hand stitched and dyed but the dude wants £260 plus postage, it looks amazing but I can't afford that for a belt.... so I will wait lol.... as for the gloves, I weren't sure on the ones on the manequinn in the photos so I have ordered these ones from ebay to see what they are like as I have found it impossible to find anything remotely close to Cap's with the buckles etc.... again these may need sprayin to match my boot colour etc.....Captain America Cosplay Dark Brown Gloves Human-Cos | eBay I've not recieved them yet but will let you know how they look in person when they get here this week hopefully.... atleast they feature the open sides and clip buckles on the side...

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

That is a good price for a star!!
I know what you mean £260 plus postage is a lot of money for a belt!! those gloves are nice thou if the ones that come with the suit aren't very good those a nice alternative.. Ill have to have a look the reevz helmet, im hoping to get one of Deckard1981's helmet as its about the right size for my head!

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

I may decide to sell my belt/holster rig... If I do I'll put it up in the junkyard, since it seems there might be some interest in it :thumbsup

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Chris that looks like an awesome shield. I just got one as well from Rolando as well off ebay. I think he makes those at the spun metal business that was mentioned on this board out of Miami. Looks like he packed it well for its international travel? What are you doing for straps/brackets? I'm still not sure for mine. Wish I got in on Valors kit.
Cheers- Lionel:facepalm

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Yeh it was packed very well and I was more then impressed with it when it arrived! I was lucky enough to get on Valor's first bracket run however in this thread of Valor's he has put up some drawings of the bracket system and you could use those to get your own machined (post #32)

Kevin if you do decide to sell your holster and belt please hit me with a PM :D

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Yeah Chris the gloves look ok from the pics.... will know better when they arrive, I'm expecting them anytime this week... the ones that come with the suit are hard to judge from the pics so I decided to just get them anyways just incase....

Reevz FX helmet is my fave I have seen on the market.... I don't know how to add a pic on here but I'm trying now....

Re: Which one is a good base suit for the Cap

Chris my Cap suit (#1) arrived to day and I must say I am really impressed with it!!! the belt and pouches are infact brown and not bad actually, but the buckle will need changing as that's quite cheap lookin, also the star buckle on the back needs changing for a proper one as this is cheap lookin too, other than them I am well impressed, I already picked off the chest star ready to glue on my proper one tomoz.... then I'm havin the shoulder star patches made and I'm gonna add foam padding in the shoulder area to give it that look he has in the movie.... for the price I really do love it.... with a bit of TLC it's gonna look great
