Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

Annoying lens color!

Okay so WTF are these frames??
I can't find them anywhere!! o_O

After a good intensive 2 hours of searching around, I narrowed the logo/ name on the temple arm down to 3 words.

Coming across some more images, the only lead I have is an image of the writing/ logo on the temple, where I'm pretty sure it says "DOWNEY BEVANS EXCHANGE".

A bit more digging around and it looks like it's a brand new fashion brand, so new, it's not yet open...

The style of the logo font seems to match up...

RDJ must be showcasing the new frames before their launch, which might account for the fact I can't even find a product picture of them.

This is sooo exciting and just speculation, but has RDJ finally started his  OWN eyewear brand???...I really, really gotta get me some of these!!!

Yeah, I've literally just found a very small mention that RDJ actually has started a fashion brand in collaboration with New York fashion designer Christopher Bevans.

DOWNEY BEVANS EXCHANGE...A brand I'm pretty sure we will soon all be very familiar with and owning items from the collection!!

You can enter your email here to be the first to know about the launch...

I've just subscribed!!

Watch this space!! :p

well this is the kind of news our wallets were all waiting for… (I’m buying these glasses on day one)

Haha!! Me too!!

I've got a funny feeling they'll be in the $200 - $300 bracket!!
we’ll see, it depends on many factors, I like beckham’s eyewear brand because he kept the prices between rayban and persol more or less

I really do hope the pricing on these is roughly the same then, (in regard to more inevitable wallet busting!!), as I think there is probably going to be a lot more than only just one frame to collect!!

Maybe as a rough indication of a guideline price point, just had the idea of having a quick look at some random prices of frames from Christopher Bevans own eyewear brand DYNE...
20230617_223856.jpg

As you rightly point out, price depends on many factors, but fingers crossed they'll be just a bit less expensive than DYNE frames.

I suppose regardless of the price, any and all Downey Bevans Exchange frames are going to be literal must-haves for all of us here as collectors, as RDJ is obviously going to be wearing and plugging his frames a lot in the future to increase brand awareness.

With his love of fashion and especially eyewear, I think it's awesome he took the logical next step to having his own collab clothing and eyewear brand and slice of the market.

These are exciting times as collectors with the anticipation of an RDJ collab branded frame collection, you saw it here first!! Lol.

BTW, whilst on the topic of "RDJ" named frames, I still don't understand why Oliver Peoples haven't made an RDJ named frame, as he's certainly wore enough OP frames over the years and inevitably boosted mainstream media exposure and sales of the OP brand as a result.

Not sure if RDJ chooses to wear OP frames that he personally picks out, or if they are just handed to him.

I realize "celebrity product placement" differs from "celebrity endorsement" in that product placement is usually where free products are distributed to celebrities in expectation of a promotional benefit in contrast to "paid for" endorsements, when the celebrity receives a fee for showcasing a brand.

I really did think there would be an Oliver Peoples Robert Downey Jr. frame at some point (OV3000?!? Lol).

Other actors have their own OP named frames that don't have anywhere near the high profile status of RDJ...It's Oliver Peoples' loss I suppose as he's now making his own!!(y)

He may not have had an OP collab officially, but it can not be a coincidence that in recent years OP released frames named "Indio", "Avri", and "Exton".

Yes sir, we will probably buy out all their stock! I sure was curious about these frames and Im anticipating more from his new show! Hopefully these become publicly available and not just custom single collabs. On the plus side he did have those merch items from his Footprint Coalition and it was always public marketing. So Id say if they are of his personal branding, we will have a new set to aquire!

Another plus side is that ID'ing frames might get a bit easier in the coming months!!

I'm also hoping that any lens tints or colors showcased in his Downey Bevans Exchange frames will actually be the stock lenses that are provided with the frames.

It would be so refreshing to buy a collection of frames as is, without having the usual rigmarole or extra expense of having to put customs in.
It can be quite difficult at times, trying to 100% match up his custom lens tints.

The new clothing/accessories collection may even be marketed to directly color match with the new eyewear and tonally compliment the frames and lenses, (or vice versa).

More frames from an alternative Downey's Dream Cars trailer...

Preliminary investigating of that thin and short metal temple detail had me maybe at David Beckham frames, or a longshot at maybe even Persol...
20230618_101242.jpg 20230618_101153.jpg

But I'm going to hang fire (as with the Gucci GG 0200-S) until better quality images emerge from the show.

Also there's now another reason to wait until the first episode release on the 22nd June, as there's now an unknown element in the investigation, another player on the field and realistic viable contender, as they could even turn out to be another model of Downey Bevans Exchange frames, lol.

In other news, my Karen Walker Ali bronze order was cancelled due to no stock. :(

It's so annoying when this happens, especially when you have the confirmation email!!

I had some Burberry B 2195 3534 in 53mm arrive the other day too.
Man these things are on the small side, I really should have stuck with my gut instinct on these and went with the 55mm.

I'm going to go with really super light pink custom lenses on these, as any darker is going to make them seem even smaller.
I can get away with the fit, but the low lens height visually shrinks them down a lot.

So I previously compared the Burberry 53□17 to that of the 53□17 Dior Blacktie 137.
There's a big difference in size when laid out next to each other.

So I popped out a Burberry demo lens and 'lo and behold' I'm only measuring it at 50mm/50.5mm with 51mm at an absolute push.

So that's why they seem so small, come on Burberry, 53mm? Really??...Please!!

Anyway, Fathers Day is off to an early flying start as in addition, my foreign box stuffed full of eyewear goodies from a forwarding company is a bit delayed.

Saving my actual FD presents until later today!! (Hopefully more eyewear!! :D)

I'll post some pics of my Burberrys when I get some custom light pinks in.

Just noticed a typo on my case info. card, it should be OV5178-S not OV5187-S.

It looks like we may get a reappearance of the Bottega Veneta BV1052-S 001 (from p.253)...

...In the upcoming "Downey's Dream Cars"...

Also in the show, another pointer and extra clue towards these frames being the matte black Oliver Peoples Dbs with custom orange lenses (from p.302 & p.330)...

What tint strength would you say you have for the grey Basel lenses?

I had a 50% tint of a slightly darker grey made but they're much too dark - I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and have them redone as the Basel really are an awesome frame!

I'm not really sure of the percent, as I used these AliExpress frames from my donor lenses box...

...But I'd hazard a guess at maybe 30% to 35%..??
