Hey guys. Everyone can have the Diors in 53mm.

I heard of people airbrushing tortoise frames into a glossy black top and a matte bottom and airbrushing a frame is $60 tops.

so guys I was thinking, the preorder delivery time for the initium 3000 was about 100 days: we were supposed to get them around mid september but they shipped at the beginning of december.

the preorder for the new red london calling says “june 1st”, so this time late summer maybe?

How can it take that long to recreate an already existing pair of glasses in a new colour! ....Actually It’s not even a new colour is it tbf

Ever since I brought up airbrushing the tort Diors the entire Dior Black Tie 137 stock on Go Optic got taken. Damn the power of this forum is wild.

Economies of scale. For such a small run of product it would need to be prioritised accordingly. I'm sure there are other orders ahead for much larger quantities etc.

Rayban can sell aviators and wayfarers for $155 with glass lenses.

Why is the cost 2.4x with Initium without glasses? Is it due to the small batches and lack of bulk sales?

Someone with an econ background help explain. I really want to know out of curiosity.

It could be because Luxuttica owns such large amounts of glasses companies so they could compensate on costs but I'd love to know. :)

TLDR;

Well, when your produce let’s say a few thousand frames, or millions (Initium vs Ray Ban) the cost of production per unit is quite different, because in the first case you have a contract with a manufacturer and in the second you basically own the factory.

Also, you can afford to make less profits per frame when you sell in large quantities, that is why a small brand like Initium has to have high prices, because they don’t sell that many glasses. You can tell their profits per frame is quite high when they give you discounts for buying a few glasses at the time, or when they have sales down to 100$ (like they have right now for the Revelations btw).
That doesn’t mean they’re robbing you, that’s just their way to survive, and that also explains why, for the same price, the quality is a bit lower than a bigger brand like Cutler and Gross for exemple, to stay in the same range of prices.

That makes alot of sense. I might pick up a major in Business in the future along with my CJ major. This stuff seems really interesting.

Also the Silhouettes on ebay were damaged BEFORE shopping so I got refunded. But I'm not putting money towards the RH LC's just yet. I'm getting custom tints. I'm holding off until April or so.

Btw Intium is starting to listen y'all. They got sizes on some frames on the site.

In the future they might have a page for how to take care of certain frames but no word yet on whether materials will be listed.

Scale of production is probably one answer. I’d hypothesize Initium could afford to sell some of their more popular frames for half or a third of the listed retail price and make a fantastic profit; their product doesn’t seem of especially high quality or cost to produce. But why would they? Due to their association with some movies and celebrities, the brand can sell at a higher tier price-point without having to increase the materials cost.

It's probably due to "Hey look at us, we're exclusive to the 50K paycheck club" or the "Rockstar" price.

They dont want "commoners" to really wear the brand. It's all the about that lifestyle pay.

Might rethink my interests in investing, after all "join the opticcult" shows they really want go hit that niche of staying small....

To anyone wondering what the RB 3320s look like after using a glass cleaner not meant for flash lenses... Its unnerving
