BZP-IRONMAN Build

I also did a foam shell over some old work shoes i had. I slightly modified the design to fit my shoes and to aid in mobility.
I left the sole uncovered and so far the articulation isn't a problem...unless like Dyno said you start running and jumping about, then you will probably just get some cracking on the paint

Thanks. Yeah, don't plan to do much running at all. Mostly standing in place and posing for photos I would assume. lol. And answering questions like: "Duuuuude! No way!! How did you do that!??!…… You should make and sell those… seriously!!!!" :rofl

Ok, quick update: Bicep with PVA, SmoothCast 65D, some sanding, primered, then painted. No clearcoat yet. Might take a marker and darken in the bicep lines before clearcoat for some definition.

And now for the forearm update. Got the other arm coated and will have it painted tomorrow. No clear coat on this piece yet either.

Hurry up and assembly it mate so you can enter the halloween costume contest :cool

Loving your work as always:thumbsup

Am going as quickly as I have time! lol. We'll have to see on the contest.

Now, time for some updates.

The finished Arc Reactor and a shot of the arms in action.

After you primed your pieces, did you sand it down? I haven't (except the helmet) due to time. I'm hoping the clear coat will help cover that up. Your arms look great!

Only sanding was after the 65D application. Then primed, painted and clear-coated. The clear does help with the imperfections as to draw attention away from them! :lol

very nice

Thank you much!

Working on super speed mode now. Got the boots done and glued to my shoes.

Couple more things to build and we're going full-on coating to get this thing wrapped by Saturday nite.

Also managed to get the gauntlet issues worked out and have the left one completed.

Going to have to combine finishing methods now that we're so close on time. Looks like an all-niter is in order!

HEY EVERYONE!

48 hours and no sleep paid off. Suit is done! Went to a local bar and blew people away. Lots of fun! Didn't hurt that we took home the first place prize of a $1000 bucks either! LOL.

First, have to give major props to my wife for being patient and allowing me at times to take over the entire house for this project! In addition, want to take a minute here to thank everyone on these forums for throwing the assists and good advice when it was needed. The suit wouldn't have made it to reality if it hadn't been for the selfless giving and encouragement to reach for the finish line that was received. Standouts in my mind are all the creators of the templates that we all use (robo, foam mods by Stealth!) The different finishing and painting processes by Xrobots and Doc Holiday. Online video tutorials by Stealth and Xrobots and others were both informational and inspirational. Can't put together an exhaustive list, but again, these are the standouts in my mind. Many more of you PM'd me files, advice and praise... helped me get back on the stick and git 'er done! :LOL

After the suit was finally done, my wife was amazed as were all people we came in contact with. They were literally overwhelmed and downright thrilled to get their photos with IRONMAN. So, needless to say, this is going to be an ongoing hobby for me and I'm already planning the next suit and venues to show up at.

With that, here are some pix from my first event. Over the next few days, I'll weigh in with some points of interest concerning the suit and its construction/finish, and plans for the next one.

Feel free to comment or ask any questions!

Looks great man! I finished mine as well (all but lights in the helmet)...but I've only showed it off to family so far and posted some pics on Facebook. I'll be suiting up at work on Halloween..I'm sure it'll be a riot! Thats awesome that you won $1000....maybe I can find a contest too. :) Made all the work WELL worth it huh? How did the suit hold up? I just did PVA, then prime/paint, and then a quick clear coat and wearing it about 30 minutes already yielded some creasing and paint chipping in various places where the parts rub together. I have a bit of work to do with the boots and am trying to determine the best way to light up the helmet so I can still see. If time permits this week I might have my Finhead helmet ready instead of the foam one. I, like you, will definitely keep going with this hobby...I might try and tackle War Machine this winter.

Again...looks great! Well done!

The work was definitely worth it although I don't think I got paid more than minimum wage for the hours invested! :lol

The suit held up ok. I am wearing it for my kids tonite and then halloween Wednesday. That will probably be the last time this one gets any use. It's too tight in some places and some of the pieces need to be scaled length-wise for my taller frame as well. So, that's the next project. Slightly bigger on scale and a fiberglass helm with motorized faceplate so my wife doesn't have to take the helmet off and put it on me for pictures 50 times in one night!

As for the eyes, I used the xrobots method on his website using a pair of sunglasses lenses. You can see out of them when they're not lit, but be careful in a darker room with the lights on, you don't get much visibility. I've attached a shot of the eyes lit up so you can see how they look.

Good luck and let me know how things go at your party!
