BZP-IRONMAN Build

looks great man! congrats on winning the big money!
its so funny seeing like 15 different iron man builds all coming together at the same time! haha. I'm also already planning my next build! haha

Thanks for the look everyone! Yeah, can't wait to get started on the next suit too. Next helm will have all the toys.

Here are some better lit shots of the suit. Yes, I know, the shoulders are on backwards! :lol

Amazing work mate...congrats on your first prize too....nice little bonus for your efforts...any pics of your suit post party so we can see how it held up?
I had a few tears in mine and a bit of paint flaking off...but nothing that wasn't repairable.....fibreglass helmet for my next project too

Thanks! Yep fiberglass all the way with the helm this time. Actually, the most recent pics I posted was just yesterday after suiting up for the kids. It's a little worn around the edges, but again, I am doing a complete rebuild since I want to scale some things a bit here and there. This is one for the archives! Tomorrow night's outing for the kiddies and Halloween will be it's last public showing.

Hey BP, with your 65D coatings did it actually get rock solid to the point that you couldn't flex the piece at all? I'm running into an issue where my 65D castings and coatings are not hardening... they form a shape or coating but are still very flexible. It seems to hold it's shape on the foam if I flex and it doesn't crack.

I've done 5 coatings of PVA and two coats of 65D mixed at 1:1 ratio... wondering if I have a bad batch of 65D.

The 65D will be a bit flexible but not much. I put 4 coats on my pieces though.

Hello all!

Been busy with the 2.0 build and have finished and made half a dozen appearances in it thus far. Some pix to follow.

First appearance, C2E2 in Chicago this past weekend:

Cute kid in the War Machine suit followed me around all day:

Then today we made an appearance at a local "Fitness Fest". Check out Ironman pumping the iron:

Going to be putting up my original suit for sale on Ebay. Think there would be any takers or am I wasting my time? (scroll back through the thread to see it)

Working on a MK 4 with an Iron Patriot color scheme. Very excited to get it done in time for the 4th.

So, in the past, I've used the usual hot glue method to put the foam together. While this method results in a good strong bond, you have to develop the technique of thinning out the glue layer and compressing the seam when glueing for a nice tight seam when the glue dries. Even then, the seam doesn't always end up as tight as I would like and of course when you paint the suit, the seams stand out when painted.

In conversation with a friend who used to work in an industry that included attaching foam to wood. He directed my attention to a glue that not only works, but is nothing short of amazing.

It's called Weldwood and it's made by DAP. I got mine at Menard's here in the states. See the photos below of the glue and the resulting pieces I've used it on. The resulting seams are virtually invisible.

Very simple to use. Spread on both surfaces, wait 15 minutes and then place them together. Be careful when you do, once joined, they don't come apart. Ever.

Let me know what you think.
