Building the Red October

That is outstanding! Now you just need a really big bath tub and have to be able to perfect the boop...boop...boop submarine sounds. Oh, and a whole lot of baking soda so it will keep popping up.

Thanks, Moo!

Got the rear catepillar doors glued on today, but need to blend them in with filler and paint - tomorrow...

Thanks guys... Got some filler in for the rear door pices (they're solid wedge-shaped pieces).

Will paint later today.

Here are shots of the rear doors. Still need to wet-sand them, add weathering, and paint the simulated openings black.

You have certainly generated some anticipation!! Very exciting and wonderful detail put into this!!

In that last shot you can see how I had to cheat on the beaver tail. I couldn't get the two halves to snap closed over the molded in brackets on the hull/stern, so I cut the brackets off and just glued the tail on. Not perfect...

Sometimes you have to make compromises like that. My only suggestion would be to fill in the gaps where the brackets used to be but I imagine you plan on doing that anyway at some pont. Overall I'm quite impressed; in fact, when I first glanced at that top pic, the one taken down low from the stern, I thought I was looking at the studio model. There's the scene in the movie where they are looking at a photo of the stern of the Red October in drydock and this reminded me of that picture.

Wow!

I finally broke out my Hunt for Red October model and while it is an excellent representation of a real Typhoon class Sub it it not great for Red October and the Film sub is a lot different than the real Typhoon class.

You did an incredible job.

Could you share little about the colors and how you weathered it or is that covered in the previous pages. I went through them quickly.

Thanks again for the pics.

Amazing
