Beleive me - there are crooked lines I'm sure!
I sweat the details on each line, wondering if they are straight and true, and can nit-pick certain specific lines here and there. But taken as a Gestalt, it all works, and is looking surprisingly similar to the real deal.
Just like on the ral DS.
Can you imagine the inconsistancy that must show up on the real DS? I mean you had 4 or 5 hippies that were probably stoned to the bejesus working on this thing!

Made a creative decision today...
After visiting Seattle, I'm confident that the "Antarctic Circle" is in fact a silver band. What I'm not entire sure about is if there was a secondary, narrower silver band, closer to the south pole.
I know for at least part of the circumference there was such a secondary band, but am not sure if it was originally incomplete, or if parts of it were worn off over the years.
So...
On my model, this secondary band will be consistent around.
Here are some shots of the original - you can see what I mean, as you can see the secondary (lower) band fade away.

Those lines make it so real !! Im in awe and I love your dedication to this model !
I hear you on the 2 silver strips, you're so lucky to be able to see the original model you're replicating !

Rob, that's just a thought, but I think the wider strip is not pure silver, but mixed with something darker. I would try with some gun metal paint ? The thinner looks to be pure silver to me that's why it looks to fade away in comparison of the other.

And yes - I know the broader silver band "flattens out" right in front of your nose in this pic. Will I fix it later? Dunno...

Totally. We'll work it out.
Had some unexpected evenst this past week which threw a wrench in things, but next few weekends are pretty much free. Give me a buzz towards the end of this week (Thursday or Friday).
