Building The Death Star - PRODUCTION

Here's the latest, ladies...

Brad came down yesterday. I'd already masked off 98% of the next section of the lower dome, so we finished off the masking and speckled this area. Pretty much nailed it in terms of matching what was already there.

Getting close to lunch time, Brad masked off most of the "Wilson Hair", then we had to head out for my son's soccer game (tie: 1-1, but they're still undefeated!).

When we got back, we completed the masking of the Wilson Hair, fixing a couple of the lines to finesse them a tad. Then we re-sprayed this area with a lighter color (scroll back to any of the older shots - you'll see the difference). It flows so much better with the lighter color. The grey we used has an EVER so slight beige tone (just barely) but the contrast to the base coat is perfect.

I also fixed a couple of the blocks in the first row I did (upper dome; right of dish; bottom row).

Getting this done, along with fixing the Wilson Hair was VERY relieving - nice to have these tasks (which are lateral progress, not forward progress) done.

THEN we began playing with some lights! I couldn't say no to Brad's persuasion! I experimented with different sized micro-bits on the surface, and Brad focused mostly on the trench (though he did do some Exacto scratching on the surface too. So I was using a drill, and Brad was using the blade. Check out the trench work he did!

Overall a great day - lots of progress! Oh and check out Mike Wazowski dressed as the Death Star for Halloween!

It was great day. I was so happy to get some lights on this thing. The pics don't do it justice.

I think Rob and I figured that it will take a good 5-6 months of window drilling to get most of the lights on there.

Great pics Rob.

Guys I've done this before, but I need your help.

If ANYone is going near Seattle Center, I'll pay your admission to the Sci-Fi museum. They have now lifted the no-photo policy (but don't allow flash).

I need detailed, hi-res (7.0 - 8.0 mp, or higher) pics of the lower left dome of the Death Star, pretty much square on where the detail paining ends on the far left (facing the dish).

In my thread, you can see how far I've got. I need only one or two more shots going around to the left of the lower dome.

With the photo policy lifted, and me needing only one or two shots, I figure that the playing dumb, "Oh I didn't see the part about No Flash" routine would work to sneak away the one or two shots I need.

I'll cover your admission and your lunch!

Thanks! But didn't we snap one of the "signage"? Your cam maybe?

Yep.

I just had to take a pic like this...

It doesn't go to the party guys - the party comes to it!

Good time to bump the thread; didn't touch it at all last week until just yesterday. Started masking the next section of the lower dome.

Still in soccer season though (kids won again on Saturday - still undefeated and #1!) so still busy. But at least Halloween is now past. But also still working on home improvement projects. Fall is always busy.

Problem with posting pics though. I've used almost exclusively WackyChimp's, so now what? Any suggestions?
