Building the 8' Star Destroyer (superstructures done)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

That looks Awesome! I'm glad I could help! If there is anything else, do not hesitate to call upon me.

I just LOVE that Dome!!!:cheers

I think you should make just the one and make a mold and cast two off them, just an idea, Great Work Julien!

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

That's beautiful and incredible Julien. Top notch as always!
BTW, do you need to change your screen name to "Cut Thumb" ? :lol
Cheers, JT

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

Wow, that really came out nice! I can imagine the weight-issue will be in focus during this build :confused

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

You do realize your going to have to build me a studio scale Princes Leia mate, if you can do this you can do anything, & you can do anything that pretty obvious now.

Still not got the bill for the broken lamp (y)angel:lol

I've got the swag ready to post so hopefully it will be this week mate.

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

Awesome stuff, must cost a fortune in model kits though! :)

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

Look at that dome... and its your first try? Amazing attention to detail!

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

Hey guys,

Thanks you for all your comments and support, those are greatly appreciated !

Thank you very much Guy, I let you know once I got it ! (y))

Some news now...

I will show you the process of how I built a dome with one piece of styrene. Unfortunatly, it was not perfect so I will have to go with another way (3D printing ? Probably).

Here some stuff which will detail the main hangar bay :

I've read somewhere that the kind of rails of the main hangar bay were from a loco kit. Actually those are every black pvc half round and H rods with half styrene disks. It can be seen on a pic of Fulmer building the hangar and it's easy to notice that those pieces are not evenly cut and glued (there are a ton to build, they could have cast the parts ! I will :$).

Ive also worked on the underside of the bridge which is almost done. I did some cool find !

I worked on the X array, it's also almost done, some minor details to add :

Thanks for looking !

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

I like what you did with the dome, adding the top and bottom to one pattern, good idea!. You said you ran into some problems, can I ask what were they?

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

The dome looks good to me...at least from the angle in the pics.
Didn't the original 8 ft SD have those dome molded from glass or crystal? Check link below.

Perhaps you tried that route...if so I wish you luck in finding someone who can do 3D printing for cheap.

Your work so far is amazing.

Thanks Taz, I bought some months ago crystals but the faces are not perfectly done :( The ones on your site looks better, unfortunatly they is not the size I need (2" diameter)

Jay, there are some misalignement (about 1/10 of millimeter but that's enough) between the triangle faces when I glue them. I cant do better :(

Gonna try to get them 3D printed as this is the only way to get something perfect (because even with stock crystals, you're not sure you've got a 100 accurate dome because of the proportion of the triangles which can be slightly different from a manufacturer to another).

Thanks for your kind words though !

I finished the radar (it's missing some parts but I dont have pics good enough to ID them) then I primed it. There's also a pic with my hand to give an idea of the size :

Re: Building the 8' Star Destroyer

Fantastic work Julien. I'm very envious of you doing one of my favorite ships at full studio scale! :)

Great job!
