Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien)

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

In the last few days I've started back up on Bob :)
I've been finishing off building the partition for the main body mould that I'd started some time ago, I'm almost ready to start laying rubber now.

I'm almost out of polyurethane so I cant test the machine at the moment & I'll continue with the tendons when I have the rest of the main moulds built.

My plan at the moment is to get all the main moulds built & two good casts of everything (assuming the machine does what its supposed to). One set of casts will be set aside & kept unaltered in a safe place as back up incase I need to make new moulds. The other set will be assembled & painted, that will be mine & it'll be used for photo's etc.

When I have mine fully built & photographed & I'm satisfied with what I have I'll move on to the next step ;)

I'll update with some pic's when I've got some rubber on the body :)

Thanks for thinking of me & sorry for the lack of updates lately :)

Sounds like a solid plan. Keep up the great work.

Looking good, Leigh. Can't wait to see a full resin version.

I love it. As always - such a clean, pro approach with no effort spared. Pure mould porn. :thumbsup

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

Thanks Guy's :)

I'm finished with the thixo coats now (about half hour ago), just letting the last one go off & then I can pop a couple more key's on & a final runny coat. I'll get a couple more pic's up in 2-3 hours.
This one is turning out to be quite hard work! there's loads of undercuts & detail, lots of potential bubble traps. Its also taking a hell of a lot of rubber to make this part. All that detail & shape adds up to quite a large surface area.

Just in case you were looking at the times & wondering... I stopped to go to bed at a convenient point & started again this morning :)

You are incredibly clean and precise, technical skill and aesthetic taste.

Also, there is not a speck of dust, and an object out of place, as opposed to my house, where it seems that the forms are created with a dose of luck :D:D:D

All this makes me want to continue growing in the hobby.

Thanks Leigh :thumbsup

Thank you :)
Its immensely pleasing to be told that anything I do is inspiring to others :)

Right, finally finished this rubber section of the body mould, I'll give that 24 hours & then I should be able to start the FG jacket. I've used just under 3kg of rubber for this piece!! Need to order some more to finish the entire body mould & I still have the base & the fin to do :)

What kind of rubber are you using for this?

Nick, I'm using Polycraft GP-3481-F, I'm finding it nice to work with & the thixo additive is easy to use & mix. HTH :)

Leigh it looks as though you've been doing this for years and years......your techniques are awe inspiring!

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

Gotta agree with vaderdarth there, when you post your techniques and processes, people sit up and take notes (well I do anyway, the ingenuity and perfection blows me away every time ;)).

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

Thanks Guy's :) I don't know whether my techniques work until they're tested though, I'm still learning as I go :)

Well, I've got the Jacket made & trimmed, flipped the whole lot over & I've made a start on the partitions for the next part :)

I need to thicken up the flanges here n there on the jacket, I'll use some P40 (chopped glass paste) after I have the other parts made.

Hello Leigh,
Finally a bit 'of confusion even on your work table. :)
The counter is made of fiberglass epoxy or polyester or something else? It produces toxic smell and you have to use the mask?
If in the future I will make molds of my Alien, I'll give a copy to you and you will give a copy to me. :D :D :D

Re: Bob the Alien (Giger inspired Alien) Sculpting finished page 45

Thanks sogonoraa :)

The jacket is made of Polyester, yes it stinks & no I don't wear a mask. I know I should but I don't :)
