Incredible molding process! Its awesome to watch and learn.
Hallo,
I apologize in advance for my English. I use a translator and I do not know if the translation is correct. Your Alien is Beautiful and very complex. I'm making one myself full 1:1 scale, but are still backward and then I have never worked with polystyrene, but only with clay. Your building will be very useful to carry out the details of my. Use modeling clay to make yourself the details?
best regards
I'd say there is a lot we could learn from a natural such as yourself, everthing you turn your hand to is top notch, even if it is the first time. Cleanest first mould I've ever seen, and very well thought out![]()
What Canobi said. I half-arse everything myself...I tune into this thread every time I want a megadose of things being done PROPERLY. :lol
I mean look at that table setup. Holy crap!
How many layers of glass did you put on, Leigh?
Waiting in anticipation to see more updates Leigh![]()
Add that extra glass in the middle before you do anything else, no matter how tempted you might be to press on. Should be fine. You could slightly under-catalyse the resin for a slow setting time, I'm not sure it would retard the ultimate shrinkage but it won't hurt.
Very Very cool. Cant wait to see more
It must be nerve racking to move all that soft clay around.
Looks great!
Did you separate the silicone and the sculpt? If so then the 'seal' to the surface is broken. Silicone has an amazingly low surface tension, so despite its high viscosity it wicks into invisibly small gaps. Because it sticks so well to itself, the last thing you want is the next half of the mould invading the first half; it will form thin 'blotches' along the seam line.
If you did remove the sculpt, I'd recommend taking it out again and greasing up not just the joining flange but also inside the sculpt/casting area itself for a couple of inches, just in case. Could save grief later!
I've enjoyed every minute of this build. Such fun to see it from start, to finish, to mold-making. A true pleasure. Great work.
