Interest Blade Runner Passport???

are you aware of the EU Passport card? i feel that it would be more in keeping for this style of passport rather than the current book style.

The prop should look pretty nasty as well. Not necessarily in a weathered way, but in the Blade Runner Universe they may not have the materials left to truly make passports so they make them out of the materials at hand. Since the world is analog as well and we see it on many other props I think a Barcode somewhere to scan would fit in with the world.

Here's a possibly design I created for the main information page (disregard the filled-in information, that's just placeholder text):

The bar code at the bottom is a bar-code version of the usual machine readable code used for international passports. Let me know what you guys think...

Very cool. Would there be some indication of their status as to whether they were human or not? Not sure if that would fit in universe.

Yeah, that's one of the issues I had in the design... some characters seem to know their replicants while others don't. I'm primarily designing the passport with humans in mind but...

Very interesting design - I really like it. I am rethinking the whole passport book idea. Deckard would not likely have gone off planet, and I cannot imagine any Bladerunner fan thumbing the passport fondly admiring the entry/exit stamps. Seems like a whole lot of effort into a passport that is highly unlikely in he future anyway. If there is a tangible passport in the future, I would think it would hang around the traveler's neck - harder to steal. Perhaps a plastic memory card sort of thing with an ID surface such as you show above?

We could offer both a booklet and card version of this. That could satisfy multiple opinions as well as budgets...

Looks good Indy --

I wonder if instead of the Airport barcode it would be better to use an more abstract solution.
If you google Big Data Visualisation (images) you'll get an idea of some of the more interesting visual solutions that could work in keeping with the futuristic concept you're proposing.

Cheers,
MARK

In generell I like the above design :thumbsup But somehow it is not "clicking" fully for me.
I least as a passport for "K" - in 2049...

Just some thoughts....

- why not using a finger-print instead a signature? Or in addition? The letter "K" seams to be a little bit less for a Signature ;)
- how about integrating an DNA-Code sequence (see Ein's "Portable BR 2049 Scanner" thread)?
- Replicant "Status" yes/no?

Anyhow this will be for sure a great addition/extension to anybodys BR collection :)

Just my thoughts about it. Looking forward to see more pics :popcorn

Wouldn't his passport number starting with "nx" indicate that he's a nexus model and thus a replicant?

Yeah, that's one of the issues I had in the design... some characters seem to know their replicants while others don't. I'm primarily designing the passport with humans in mind but...

I don't feel that there are many reps that don't know what they are. Rachel was the only acceptation (and Deckard if you're inclined to believe), with Tyrell stating it's because 'She's special'. An experiment in other words.

Replicants were, as we know, once illegal on Earth and so I strongly believe that there would be indications and references to the origins of an individual on their ID documents.

Thanks for the ideas guys... keep them coming. Remember, the "data" is temporary, so the "NX" code, the "K" signature, etc... are just place holders for now. @MurdocXXL I was thinking of a thumbprint as well... that's one point I've really thought of changing. @KramStaar, I still want to keep the "retro future" look, most big data visualizations seem a bit too modern, ironically. I might switch the style of barcode though as this one is quite busy.

In regards to the replicant issue... I'm almost thinking it'd be similar to how some states have a special drivers license for Under 21... like a big stamp on it and/or color difference.
