Markforged has been slow to respond to me, i’m pretty disappointed in their sales team. I’m also waiting on a financing response from a distributor of the Desktop Metal Shop System

I also submitted my models to several companies in Canada to see what i would be looking at in production costs. Ideally, i’ll complete the entire run asap, and then offer kit versions in steel and Resin.

update: just got off the phone with the desktop distributor. He said the printer alone is $170k USD, with the cleaner at $40k and furnace at $107k

still working on a few options.

[emoji51] that is quite a bit astronomical, I wonder if there are companies who could just print the parts for you rather than shipping you a printer...

i got a quick quote for the barrel alone from a place here in Vancouver...

$992 for 1
$630 each for 10

I'm still in, but when I hear these prices, I'm getting the impression that printing them in steel seems not very realistic or price of the blasters should drastically go up? I'm not sure if I'm willing to invest more in this, looking at the long time this run is taking already.

OK, communication was fine all the time and we got regular updates, but we also got quite some excuses for delays and we are now waiting for this one for more than two years, which is the longest I've ever waited for a prop. I know the Quality / Price / Time gif all too well, but two years?

I'd really like to see some accurate estimations on when these blasters will actually be finished. I'm still in, but not if I need to wait another two years for a finished blaster, I'm afraid. I really want to be supportive towards Brandon, so I don't want to drop out right now, but I also want te be sure that I'll get a great blaster in the end (and with that I mean hopefully still 2020).

Speed and accuracy are priority right now.

I want these completed ASAP. Now that i have the funds from the loan, i’m considering all options to get these done right, and done quickly, Regardless of cost. I’m looking at outsourcing the carbon fibre grips, so that i can just focus on the clean up and finishing.

The price stays the same for this run, regardless of material.

Difficult decisions.
Basically I agree to what TomVDJ says. This run should be completed soon.

However I would prefer printed steel as opposed to cast pewter.

@brandomack
What kind of deal would the printing company give you if you ask for 70 printed barrels/blasters instead of 10 (if 70 is the size of this run)?
Would that make any sense financially?

Alternatively would it be possible to rent a metal printer to complete this run?

the printer said the price doesn’t change beyond the 10

I talked to the carbon fibre guru today, and he would like to see the grips in person to get a better estimate.

either way, now that i have the money, i’m bringing in help from the film industry to get these done well and quickly

I thought Brandon said that he was going to buy a new printer with his small business loan. Hence, he was strongly considering printing in metal. I took that to mean he was printing the pieces himself or at least a fair portion of them.

I‘m sorry. Exactly right.

Reading the last couple of pages, I feel a concern within me growing and growing for this project.
It seems like the two years of waiting have, at this point, been for nought? Since we are no longer relying on the casts you made, and the carbon progress you shared just a couple of weeks ago will now also be re-done elsewhere? So the money that we've invested have basically been wasted now, and you are going to finish this project out of your own pocket?

However, it seems that going with your intention of steel printing will be extremely costly? Also, if you were to find a provider of this, how realistic would it be to have a bulk order made within reasonable time? Don't they work with a huge backlog and lots of orders lined up for whatever industries? With the price estimates given, I'm now also quite confused if this is even going to happen? Have we gone away from steel printing again?

It's sounds very impressive when you say that you will bring in help from the film industry. But what does that mean? Do you have any arrangements or are you just sharing with us your intention, whether or not it will actually be realised?

I don't mean to come off as negative. But I'm getting a bit of tired of hearing promises and not seeing lasting results or radical directional changes in the project progression. It feels like I have to read every new bit of news with a great deal of scepticism and restraint.

It just somehow feels like we are now back to square one.

I was looking at the options that got these in everyones hands the fastest with the best quality.

Nothing has been wasted.

As for my help, i’m calling in my friends that work in the prop, model and paint departments respectively.

people who are capable of a high level of detail.

Everyone starts the first week of July.
I have 5 people confirmed.

Sounds great, but I can understande DarthChrisDK's concerns... If you weren't a well-known name on the RPF, I'd probably would have asked a refund of my depost, to be honest.

I really hope to see some good progress beginning of July, and maybe a timeline for finishing these... Do you have a month in mind of when these could be finished? Still 2020, I hope?

Even if you had asked, you likely wouldn't have gotten it. I am paid in full and asked for one and it was denied while others were refunded. I've lined a buyer up and will have it shipped to him when completed. If it's ever completed.

Nexus 7's post is a bit disturbing. I still have faith in completion of the project. I hope that it is not unfounded and that we get good consistent progress reports that show a clear path to a high quality final product.

I am happy with the pewter. My Richard Coyle Detective Special is made of pewter and with electronics and is one of my favorite props. I believe the challenge were those Carbon Fiber pesky grips and with that being outsourced I believe you have almost half the run already cast so if your team can get back on target I can wait a bit longer. Below is just an example of how Pewter can turn out, this was distressed by my request to make it look like an actual service weapon. However I think you get the idea. I am happy with the Brandon 2.0 proposed restart and he sounds like he has his ducks in a row. ( Financing check, Friends check and somebody else will finish the grips.... Check) So starting July get some milestones on the wall and lets knock this out as this fine weapon needs a companion. :) GC

I agree with goldcylon. My RAC PKD is a wonderful prop and a wonderful example of just how fine a pewter prop can be.

So Brandon what are your thoughts ? Stay the course with pewter ? Maybe a few will be finished in late July / August? Do you have all the electronics? What say you Sir ? GC
