if it goes ahead, i plan on investing in a Metal X 3D printer from Markforged. This will mean all blasters will be printed in metal, resulting in a far superior finish, strength and weight than pewter. would there be any objections to this?
Thank you for the update, Brandon!

First - best of luck on the business loan.

Second - I think I would be good with the print approach. My concern would be how well the barrel grills turn out. Their accuracy is a big part of the prop. Would you cast those pieces? Will the new produce the quality needed for those parts?

Top quality prints. The grilles would still be printed on my Photon.

It wouldn’t set me back at all. The engineering of all components is the same. I would simply print the components, paint them, wrap the grip, and assemble.

Either Stainless steel, tool steel or nickel alloy.

with this option, i will also be able to offer polished steel or nickel versions.

Sounds like a fantastic upgrade. I trust your judgment re: the best material, balancing what will take the finishing successfully vs. durability, etc.

Thanks for this exciting update!

I want mine to have Vibranium to help with the recoil and don't want to deal with rust and cleaning.....LOL Just kidding thanks Brandomack

I trust your judgment as well, either way. But I love the idea of having a blaster in steel rather than pewter.

This brings up another interesting point. If we end up going with steel, I wonder what it'd look like if the blasters were blued rather than painted. It would look more like a real gun, it would match the Tomenosuke, and I imagine it'd be easier than priming/painting it. The original props seem to be painted, but I almost get the feeling that a blued gun would look more correct in person.

I could be wrong, of course. Also, I don't know if 3D printers leave print lines on metal, which primer/paint would help to erase. And I certainly don't want to put an extra burden on you, after you've worked so hard on these as it is. But I thought I'd put it out there.

Thanks so much for everything, Brandon! I'm so sorry to hear how rough this project has been, and it really means a lot to me that you've stuck with it for us!

a steel version would be incredible....is there an option, if you go this route, of having it unpainted, or even unassembled (electronics still assembled) much like a tomen kit we could build and finish ourselves. Just thinking this would save you time and make entering the UK a bit safer. Also, if its in steel, I wouldnt mind trying out some bluing finishes myself.

Pewter is very soft. I've seen pewter models melt just by being out in the sun at flea markets. To be fair, nacelle pylons would droop even if they were made of tritanium.
I prefer the stainless steel choice. You can save time and effort by also getting a polishing tumbler.

Why not have the grilles already be part of the gun? Stronger than plastic. And no glue that can debond.

Your raw pewter casts look rough. I believe in your skills as an artist. But the amount of filling and filing you would have to do looks daunting. Metal 3D printing may save time. And you won't need to invest in molds for other projects such as your MiB blaster.
