If you want to go futuristic but not too ornamental, a company called VAULTEK makes gun safes of various sizes that feature biometric locks.

Not sure which size would fit a blaster, and they are pricey, but they do look the part in my opinion.

I’ve spent the weekend assembling this wonderful machine. Its a Prusa I3 clone from reprapguru.com.

The main purpose of this machine is to print these

This adds interior structure to the barrel casting as well a serving as a holder for the solenoid.

I figure i’ll need another 2 evenings to complete assembly, then if all goes well a few more days to calibrate and finetune.

PLA filament?

Hey B. Do you have a rough estimate on time to completion? No rush just want to make sure I am flush with cash so there is no delay in getting this sweet piece.

I’d love to give you a timeline, but its tough to say. I am having to work around my electrical engineer’s schedule currently. He works Baffin Island during the summer, and was delayed in completing the gerber file for the circuit board. He says he is 95% done, and needs to order a prototype from China and verify its function and quality.

In the meantime, i am 3D printing and casting until i have everything ready to clean-up. I will be able to do finishing en mass, as i have a paint booth at work

Not much interesting stuff to show this week. i’ve been cleaning my castings for a few hours each night after i put my youngest to bed each night. I cleaned my man-cave which was a mess, and now is a calm and serene place where i have the 3D printer hooked up. I’m still playing with settings as the slicing program (CuraEngine) that is included in Repetier Host is different than the one in the configuration instructions, as a result i’m working my way through by trial and error. If anyone can offer any assistance in this area, i’m all ears.

For reference, this is the link to the config process.

I shot some video and took pics of boxing the hammer mold prior to pouring as well as a few pics of the casting i did on Saturday, but i haven’t had a chance to edit and upload it. I had to start work at 5am today, as i have been asked to work on the Bat-woman tv series to sculpt “something”
from our childhood around 1989 that was “mobile” so i’m going to be busy for the next few nights.

Man, if I would do these kind of things in our kitchen, my girlfriend would kill me... ;)

Well i did accidentally spill on the counter when one of the large molds failed and scorched it, and the wife was PO’d i simply answered “what, the crappy countertop that is already damaged and is getting replaced next year got MORE damaged?! OH NO!

She said, “yeah, fair enough. Just no casting on the new counter”

Hard seltzer and smelting; you're a wild man, Brandomack! Really enjoy these updates, thanks!

I had tried the hard seltzer for the first time that day, and i have to say i’m impressed. Its refreshing as well as lighter than beer, and i still get there.
