Black Widow - The Avengers Movie Style

Also, I know I'm getting a lot of pm's about this, so I'll just put it here. I'm not selling any castings of my bites, belt or pouches. I'll be glad to help others make them, though.

I am new to the whole, making-your-own props world. I would forever be in your debt if you could help me with the pouches, belt buckle, and bites. My current buckle looks line a Smooshed hourglass.

Thank you

I purchased several yards of this in white a few months ago at my local JoAnn's. I'm trying to find it in red, black, navy, light blue, and royal blue but the local stores stopped carrying it and I can't find it on their website.

If you happen to be in the store again and think about it, write the barcode off one of the bolts. I'd like to ask my local store if they can order it for me.

Thanks!

You got it! The number under the barcode is: 11721081

I also wrote down the other info just in case that wasn't enough:

Performance
Quick Dry Pique Black
Quick Dry Solid
058 in 12120
RN 35055

Good luck! :)

This is the only shot I have of her from behind ^_^ Hope it helps, I myself am going with a sporting fabric - it's like a stretchy mesh. I'll probably line with spandex. Can't wait to see how yours goes :)
Completely off topic, but: No question about what he's looking at in that photo, is there?

Thanks! I was able to find it with your info. They had it at my store but all of the bolts were rolled backward so you couldn't see the texture.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting their progress and discussion on this thread. I've been roped into being Black Widower for a genderbent Avengers for Dragon*Con, and really had no idea where to start with this. Now I have direction!

Oh, and big thanks to Lady S for posting your progression pics with the casting. If I may ask, how did you get the final pouch casts to attach to your belt? Did you mount some kind of clips to the back?

I've been looking for a good excuse to try out some resin casting; this may be it, thanks!

All of these examples and directions are fantastic...you all are an amazing group and you look so great in you BW costumes! I was going to just say forget it and buy the Elite Black Widow costume, but seeing the quality of it on other threads I'm convinced that I could (attempt to) make something a little better quality for that much money! I'm going to start playing around with the resin casting and such to get a feel for it here in the next couple of days, although I am horrible at sculpting so it'll be interesting to figure out how to make the bite and belt masters.

I am relatively good at pattern following, but I am not even remotely good at pattern drafting. Is there anyone who has done this costume from scratch who would be willing to sell a reproduction of the pattern that they drafted for the actual catsuit? Obviously it would need to be re-sized from person to person, but I think I could do that...it's just the jumping-off point that I need.

I didn't draft a pattern, but I did find a pattern for catsuits from Jalie 3135 - Skin Suit Sewing Pattern - Jalie Sewing Patterns

And I found it works really well, even has a collar.

Hope this helps :)

LadyS, any chance that you could either post up or PM me details on what size buckles and belts you used to make your holster rig? I'm working on a revised/more accurate belt for my wife, so any info/help in this manner would be greatly appreciated.

Kind of delayed, but here are some pics of our group from Dragon*Con. My outfit ended up being pretty kit-bashed last minute, but I'm definitely looking forward to recreating it from scratch for this year.

-dusts off this thread-

Hello! I'm hoping to completely re-make my suit for this version (as a silent protest against her grody AoU suit). Has anyone figured out the seam or trim used on the suit?
Fabric detail.jpg

I went through an exhaustive search while working on my own suit last year. I thought, perhaps, it was a stretch grosgrain ribbon, pieced together and (as near as I can figure from the high res images) topstitched. I never found anything that changed this opinion.

In the end, I was afraid that the stretch grosgrain wouldn't have enough give for the spandex I was using; I didn't want to shred suits the way SJ was rumored to have during filming. While poking around the local fabric shop, I found some herringbone-textured fold over elastic that I thought would work really well, providing a similar texture and the "channeled" look of the original:

It was a little wide, but I was reaching "must sew" mass, so I went for it. During construction of the suit, I stitched it three times -- a zigzag on either side, and a straight stitch up the middle. I'm sure I popped a few of them in the course of the con, but everything stayed in place and still looked pretty good:

I haven't seen the stuff in any local stores again, here or back in the US, but I have the catalog information, if you're interested.

Your previous version looked pretty awesome, so I'm curious to see the "improved" suit! =)

I actually found your pintrest in search! It helped me lots and thank you for the detailed explanation here. Looks like I may have to end up creating my own ribbon here, lol.

And thanks! The old one was just all worn down, so if I wanted to wear it again, I'd have to re-make it anyway. This time I going with different, updated fabric, though.

I actually made mine. The thigh extensions I completely made form scratch (and want to re-make them actually), the belt is just a generic one I got at my local tactical store and I placed the buckle with a cobra one, then I glued the Sepra holsters onto the rig.

Popping in to let you know I had a friend that has seen the Avengers suit in person, she says that the trim is actually zipper tape! Now that I've seen so many HD images on here, I can definitely see the backside of a zipper running down the center.

Hi to you all!
I'm preparing Black Widow costume too, Lady S I really love yours! It's amazing!
This is what I've done so far, still need something to complete the costume.

I bought the catsuit, it's the Disguise Marvel's Avengers Movie Black Widow Theatrical Adult Costume, on Amazon, but needs some modification

For example, the belt buckle is horrible and plasticky. I'm going to redo it in forex.

For the gloves, I bought the Alpinestar Stella Tyla gloves too. Cut the fingers and colored the drawings.

I also found the perfect wig on ebay.

I'm actually having trouble finding the black boots with wedge and the gun holsters. Tomorrow I'm going to go shopping and hope to find something useful.
