Howdy.

I just picked up the re issued Viper kit from Revell/Monogram. Just wondering what would be Studio accurate in terms of general color?

Interms of screen viewing or actual color for filming?

There is a difference.
When you see the Vipers "on screen" they are washed out by the studio lighting..... so they appear lighter then they were actually painted.

This is how I paint all of my Vipers... (TOS or New)..... how they appear "on screen"

So, for this I have found a very good color that lends it's self to weathering and everything that a Viper needs to look right.

I use Tamiya AS-20 Insignia White. This is a very...(VERY!)... light gray, almost white. But it looks almost identical to the "on screen" look of the ships.

Here's a few examples for your perusal.....

The originals were painted a light gray, but darker then the insignia white color that I use.

The red stripes were also alittle darker red then how they looked on screen...(which ended up like a dark orange on screen)

For the Monogram/Revell 1/32 scale kits, if you want to paint them like the original models, I suggest a light sea gray, or light battleship gray.

Again though..... they won't look like they did on screen.
