Whats the nonsense about flash pictures? So they let you take pictures but put the exhibits in dark rooms to deter you ? Never liked this mentality about some exhibitors and boycott them when they start this idiocy. One lame excuse I was told at an exhibit once is they think the light from the flash will wash out colors.....well it would take decades of constant harsh light to do that. Fortunately they make good digital cameras that take great pictures in low lite rooms then you can tweak the exposure on your computer.
Beats me what it is. To make matters worse, they won't let you take a tripod in either to get a long exposure. I tried that today. Nobody could explain why I couldn't do it. :unsure
Aaron Douglas did a talk and episode review there today. I'd never met the man before. I had heard he is prone to showing up for fans in a uniform, but I was shocked when he showed up in his BDUs! I was also there with my BDUs in case I ran into any other fans there. I'm glad I did now.
He actually did a double-take when he looked out in the audience and saw someone else wearing what he was. Great guy, just like I'd always heard. We all watched "Flight of the Phoenix" which he swore he'd not seen since it first aired. He actually yelled out at some of the characters during the episode which was pretty funny ""F-YOU, Hot Dog!" when Hot Dog mentions the Chief frakking the toaster).
I got him to sign my BSG log book that I got from kevinericon here at this forum. I could have sold 2-3 of them when I was standing in line if I'd had more than the one. Aaron signed my book, "Get back to work, Specialist!" when I told him I had run an Army maintenance unit. He did ask what I thought of the way he portrayed that part as I'd seen the types in real life. I told him he'd nailed it (which, he had which is why I always ID'd what that character most of all).
And I
finally got a halfway-decet shot with the MKII, certainly better than the one I got at the exhibit opening, anyway...
And a time-delay shot I took holding very still in front of the MK II:
I must warn you, the shipsup close just don't look nearly as cool as they do on screen, but it is really neat to be standing in the same room as they are!
One thing I noticed today while standing in line, one of the Spinner cars from Blade Runner is hanging right above the membership desk. I've been there many times and never noticed it as you don't expect to need to looks straight up. It's almost impossible to get a good photo of it as you can't get level with it anywhere...
