Bandai release schedule

An FYI in case anyone is interested - Hobby Lobby currently is running 40% off ALL their model kits in stock in-store. I was very surprised to see that the Bandai 1/72 Y-Wing Fighter was stocked heavily, along with the 1/72 Luke Skywalker X-wing, the ATST, The Mandalorian Beskar kit, and some sundry Micro model kits also. The 40% brought the cost for another Y-wing for me down to about $29 with tax. Happy hunting for anyone still looking for a good deal on these kits.

Over the years I have bought most of the Star Wars models produced by Bandai. Excellent details and faithfulness to the originals, and it's a shame that they have (or so it seems) abandoned the SW line.
I had only one complaint about the Bandai kits: for those (like me) who build internal lighting such as engines, cockpit etc., unfortunately the Bandai system of glueless joints that took up almost the entire interior of the model made this thing really complicated to do... and the small scale certainly didn't help.
At this point we will see what plans AMT has (and maybe even Revell, given that the quality of its latest SW kits seems to have improved).

No Y-Wing kits at my local Hobby Lobby, but they do have these

1/48 AT-ST
Deathstar II and mini Star Destroyer set
1/72 X-Wing
1/144 Slave-1
1/144 Millennium Falcon
1/12 Boba and Mando

box scale Razor Crest and 1/144 Vader Tie/regular Tie and X-Wing

The AT-ST, Boba Fett and the variant re-boxings of the X-Wing, and the small 1/144 Tie set have perpetually been restocked

I am guessing these seem to be the "best sellers" or at least the bread and butter keeping the line alive

It would sure be nice to see other kits, even if they are not new toolings

Love to see repops of the speeder bike for example, or battle droids etc...

Heck, even the regular 1/72 tie would be nice

Over the last few months I've accumulated a small stash of the Bandai kits, buying all their Imperial vehicles except for the TIE Striker because it's not OT. I wish they were a tad larger and the scales are all over the place but I love the engineering, accuracy and super fine detail.

Do they still have the Star Wars license? I really wish they'd produce a TIE Bomber and Lambda Shuttle, they're the only OT Imperial ships I'm missing. Think I'l have to buy the Revell Shuttle even though it doesn't seem all that great of a kit.

I’m hoping we’ll get a Professor Huyang model kit soon. I need it for my droid collection, but the Black Series one leaves much to be desired in my opinion.

If you have been looking for the Bandai 1/72 TIE Interceptor, Steve aka Cult TV Man has some in stock.

I don't know who else may have them now.

Over the past few months I've been building a bunch of the Bandai kits. I have the Imperial vehicles done apart for weathering the AT-AT. The Jazewares TIE Bomber and Shuttle need work also.

They turned out better than I had hoped given my lack of experience building models. I absolutely love these kits, cannot recommend them enough . . . they're like mini Studio Scale! I got a great deal on the Rebel ships in the Junkyard, will start on them in the new year.

I need a bigger display stand, they're a bit cramped currently.

To anyone just joining, Bandai runs mostly batches of Gundam kits. Sometimes they do a run of Star Wars. They don't seem to be interested in doing a TIE Bomber or Imperial shuttle. They did cover some Mandalorian figures but left the Razorcrest to Revell and Round2.

Our best hope is that new media features and OT ship and Bandai makes a kit.

Round2 is supposed to have a 1/72 TIE Bomber and 1/12 landspeeder coming. The 1/32 x-wing is probably a rumor.

As of June 06, 2024, CultTVMan claims the 1:32 X-wing is still a Round2 goal, likely for the 50th Anniversary in 2027. CTVM is a trusted enough source so I still have hope that it's more than rumor.

If not, I still have 2 of those old 1:35 ProShop X-wings in the stash.

The Revell 1:29 x-wing isn't too bad except for the pilot.

2027... ugh, they should do a Kickstarter!

The X-wing was asked about directly to Jamie at Round2.

It is not in the pipeline, but he said it might be slated for 2027, on the 50th anniversary of Star Wars. (I can't remember the exact phrasing)

I just wrote them to ask about it and expect they'll say the same thing if then even reply.

One or two kits a year is dismal.
Definitely stinks for us.

They are a relatively small company, with Sci-fi taking up less than 1/2 of the new releases. This year they had a pause on new releases, to help shore up their financials.

They have the two largest licenses in the industry (Star Trek and Star Wars) along with Space 1999, UFO and now the Black Hole.

I think Tolkien described Round2 best: ... sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.

;)
Edit: Because I'm crazy, I went ahead and found the mention of a possible 1/32 X-wing:

That's why Kickstarter would be good, lots of money for new kits up front.

Does Revell own the Fine Molds models? If so we should beg them to re-release stuff like 1/72 Slave 1 and 1/48 TIE Fighter and x-wing.

Unfortunately, unless somehow their models start flying off shelves, it's going to be this way for a while. With Revell making a Razor Crest at just about the same time they did, I'm certain their projections for profit were halved on that venture. The only way that Round 2 can justify more sci-fi, is to have more sci-fi sales as well as interesting subject to make a kit out of. Some of the TV show model designs are less than stellar, in my opinion. Older subjects seem to be driving Round 2's success in the sci-fi category, with the release of the TIE. I'm a bit surprised that the Sandcrawler didn't make a comeback, especially since it was seen in the Mandalorian.
