AT-AT Driver Costume Construction

Wow! Jerry it looks awesome!
I missed you at Adventurecon. What day were you there?

You were there too??? :confused

Man, next year Im putting up a time and place for RPFers to meet! (there must have been 20 or so of us there)

Back on track though, Yeah this suit is deffinately one that seeing in person makes you feel like you just stepped into the movie.

The helmet alone is gorgeous! :)

Here's a funny pic. I peeled the vinyl molding off of the helmet because the natural glue/gunk that the molding came with was giving way.
I cleaned all the glue off and reglued the molding off with liquid nails clear. I did this by working my way around the perimeter - glue a little bit,
clamp, glue a little bit, clamp. Until I wound up with this!

The cloth is a dark gray underarmor-type material that I drape across the front underside of the helmet. I still need to glue it to the front
to keep it from moving like this. It keeps people from seeing up into the helmet. I'm also thinking about putting a swatch across the back
so they can't see my nappy hair!

Here is a camera phone pic taken by an obviously nervous fan of me and Kirsh:

Here's a few for fun. The AT-AT Pilot is on the cheapo fiberglass mannequin next to my bendie TE Glossy. I had to take the foam liner out of the boots, so they are droopy. These aren't the correct boots and they almost look too short to me. Notice how the pewter-gray boots take on a blue tint next to the grays of the jumpsuit and ejection straps. :love The hands are also too small for the gloves. The connector popped out of the pilot's left side, so the hose is just kind of drooping in there now. He's also in the middle of an upgrade, so some pieces are missing from the chestbox. :)

NICE!!!!! What kind of tubing did you use for the AT-AT driver? It looks really great!

Thanks guys. The tubing is from two old hair dryers. This type:

I cut the ends off and sprayed them with Krylon Fusion Pewter Gray. I discovered that all hairdryers are not created equal. Even hairdryers of the same model. These hoses come from the same models, but the left one is stiffer than the right!

The mannequin also points out how funky the shoulder bells can be. I believe the bells were sewn onto the original suits. I tried using snaps and they just wouldn't hang right, so I ended up strapping them to the shoulder straps. This guy has really squared shoulders, so it causes them to stick way out. I, on the other hand, have no shoulders, so this configuration suits me better. You can really see the difference in the picture of me outside.

Inclusion of the new bug box back greeblie. Man I'd love to find the real circuit boards!
