Assassin's Creed series costume projects (AC3 tomahawk on 6-1-12 -page 6)

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (6-30 updates pg.2 )

I wouldn't trust the foam in the washer & dryer (where i intend to stick it when cleaning) so I'm going with a fusible interfacing. It wound up crinkling something terrible on the AC2 gear, but this time I'm fusing it to the -inside- lining of the outfit, instead of the side that is facing outwards. If it crinkles, it shouldn't really affect the outer layer.

if anyone spots anything buggy, or other suggestions, lemme know, and thank you!

Ah good idea. The foam in the photos did look like a foam ive used in costumes that is washable (i wash everything at low temp anyway, so foam wont melt.
A thick interfacing ( as used in tailoring) ive used before to strengthen a shape and this is of course perfectly washable.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (6-30 updates pg.2 )

Sakara- I wound up going with a medium weight interfacing, because i don't want the hood to be *too* stiff. really just want it to have some weight, and it should sit in place allright (these hoods always liked to cling to my fro' anyways XD. Hope this will do!

Had to work on another sculpt project real quick, but back to the AC gear!

Though I need to focus on the ACR gear, I need to finish the ACB pauldron, and get one made and shipped ASAP for a friend's gear for Otakon. So I've been working on the two disks!
disk1.jpg

a thin coat of sculpey was laid over the baked sculpt, and the details were cut out of it. After shaping & sculpting, it was baked, and cleaned up with an exacto blade to smooth out the edges. This just needs a lil' dusting off and it's ready to mold!
disk2.jpg

Going to work on the disk on the top today, hopefully will be able to mold everything up tomorrow!

And hood work on the ACR gear. After the panels are edged, I'm hand sewing the panels together. It makes for a much cleaner finishing :)

Here's the panels that are ready to be assembled, with the two in the middle sewn. Also need to re-edge the tips of them, because I somehow boffed the initial transfer of the pattern and had to snip a curve into them. There may be one more adjustment to it (mainly the side panels), because I'm leaning more toward the trailer/ingame instead of the GI cover.
hoodsew3.jpg

There are two other panels, but I need to embroider them first, before assembling them and such!

I went back and redrew up the embroidery templates

aaannnd more patterning/templating.. will it ever end T_T

I decided to do the masayaf logo for the tunic intsead of the assassins one, because after drawing up the latter and mirroring it, i felt pretty "meh" about it. Also went back and redid the coat tail design, because I liked the trailer version (more detailed), and laid out the buckle design. due to time contraints, I can't bring them into inkscape and clean em up real nice, but mirrored pencils will do fine.
patterns.jpg

I might go and add the buckle sculpt into todays WIP pile, since all it really needs is sizing before the sculpt begins.

Arg 3 weeks :cry

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (7-3 updates pg.2)

busy weekend!

ACR stuff

I want to mold a bunch of stuff in one batch, so I tossed this clip thinger into the fray!
For the clips i tried out something a lil different. I did a base sculpt of the general shape, then baked it. After rubbing talcum powder on the surface of both the baked sculpt and some raw sculpey, I did a press mold of it
pclip1.jpg

I created the raised edges by pressing them into the negative.
pclip2.jpg

The negative was baked to make a press mold, and pressed sculpey into it to make the positive, using talcum powder again to help keep it from sticking. It stuck in a couple of spots, so I went back and patched those before baking.

Here's the finished sculpt. I was wanting it to be a little rougher than usual.
pclip3.jpg

Also decided to take a little break from staring at sculpey and worked on other bits!

Been itching to get to work on the bracer, so I laid it out yesterday.
bracer1.jpg

The mockup was done in foam, since it behaves similarly to wet leather.
bracer2.jpg

I may need to make some more adjustments to the size, since I have to add fur in there. Time to make it look like there's a long haired cat in the house :p

And the armor bits. this is a test run, as these may be a a bit small...

A friend of mine who works for a sign company nabbed some rejected Sintra signage from a fudge shop. I used a heat gun to shape the pieces, working from the center out to minimize curling. Sintra doesn't like compound curves a lot, but it can be done with enough working on it. I wore a sweatshirt as protection, and after heating the sintra, i laid it over a dome and used my torso and my forearms to work the shape into it. Areas were heated and pressed til i got the shape i wanted. Not the best tactic, but it worked for me.
pauldron1.jpg

The reversed edges were done by heating up specific areas and shaping those. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I'm relatively happy with the result.
pauldron2.jpg

ACB Pauldron bits

Apologies on this one, I wound up in a sculpting frenzy and couldn't locate the camera to take more wips... This was done in stages! I sculpted a dome shape, baked it, sanded it smooth, then added a thin sheet of sculpey. Removed a ring of it, shaped the inner edges, and baked again. next up were the spirals, bake, clean, and now I'm working in the edges.

Its very brown because I forgot I had it in the oven, and it sat in there for around an hour ^^;
disk3.jpg

hope to get this done today after making backplates, and put together another acr disk i forgot about, then mold everything tomorrow!

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (7-5 updates on page.2)

Everything looks so great! :D I'm so jealous of your talent :)

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (7-5 updates on page.2)

Enjoyed watching you make this stuff over the livecast and helping answer questions. Look forward to the next time. Oh and the Spartans will be busting out AC at Dragon Con on Saturday evening some time.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (7-5 updates on page.2)

oculus1857, thanks for joining me! You're the one who was making an apprentice, neh?

Once i post this, update my website, and cut some board for mounting the sculpts, I'll be streaming today. There's sooo much to do still..

The last couple days were spent working on various bits, sewing in the car as my man drove me to the fabric store & Tandy, and sculpting plates for the bracer.

ACR

I need to do two of these evil things (and people have been asking about getting the things) , and didn't want to tool them from scratch every. single. time. I tried out making a resin stamp back when I made Boromir's shield straps, since i needed to to repeat the pattern, and it worked pretty well.
Fevereon Props: LOTR- Boromir's Shield straps

So the same was done with these.

More scraping was done to get this as clean as possible. Using smoothcast 325, here's to hoping it can take all the abuse!
bracer6.jpg

I tried clamping this all together like the straps, but even with a half dozen clamps, I couldn't get the amount of pressure i wanted.
bracer7.jpg

So i went back, drilled holes into the support base, and bolted leather to it to keep it from moving. I then beat the embossing in with a hammer.
bracer8.jpg

Here's what it looked like when it was removed.
bracer9.jpg

I think i could get away with it as is, but I wanted it all deeper, so I went back and tooled it more. Cut it out and did the edging, and here's the current state of the thing before dyeing & finishing.
bracer10.jpg

Two plates are cast, one needs cleaning & mounting, and 2 more need the whole shebang lol, one of them is very large. Instead of making a massive stamp, I'm be making just the swirly part that shows, stamping THAT, then doing the rest by hand.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (updated on 7-8-11 page.2)

yesterday after dropping silicone on some sculpts, I went back to work on the ACR bracer.

After studying the references, found that the thing is composed of 6 layers (and fur!) here is one of them, about halfway done. Still need to sculpt and cast the last two stamps. Needed to make sure the panels were sized correctly first before going through sculpting

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (updated on 7-8-11 page.2)

Nevermind my stupid question. Already answered when I bothered to read thw whole thread! lol

Re: Assassin's Creed series costuming projects (updated on 7-8-11 page.2)

Soorry its been a bit since the last post.. took a break from sculpting things to work on the tunic layout over the last 3 days.

A friend had a bunch of foam sheeting from her job that they tend to just toss out, so she passed some sheets my way.. definitely not usable for finished pieces though.

Pinned sheets of it down to my dummy
tunic2.jpg

tunic4.jpg

then scrawled the layout on it, cutting it out afterwards.
tunic5.jpg

the sides were taped together, snipped where needed and retaped. The foam helped see the curves better
tunic_4.jpg

After taping together tubes for the arms, I laid out the sleeves with a pen, and cut them out into
tunic7.jpg

After everything was laid out the way i wanted, I went and made clean patterns for them.
tunic6.jpg

Here's the final pattern set, taped together for final fitting and ready to transferred to fabric and sewn. There's an inner tunic that'll be buttoned, and the outer one that will receive similar treatment hidden on a seam in the front :)

tunic9.jpg

Next up, transferring all this onto fabric and sewing the panels. I'm going to attempt to do the straight embroidery with a zigzag stitch to help save time. My machine can do 3 different sizes, so hopefully that'll be enough to add variation!

Also molded and cast some of the bits that were finished!

pauldron_11.jpg

One of these things is not like the other...

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-13-11 page.2)

very impressive work, i'm more than a little jelly.

do you have a good build for the character also?

I think i'm alright, you can't tell much til you turn my butt around (not italian or male XD) :lol
http://www.fevereon.com/costuming/ezio_ac2/fullgearback.jpg

Yesterday was a lot of this-
embroiderypile.jpg

Today is shaping up to be the same, maybe tomorrow too :p

Keep in mind I say this having NEVER played the game. In fact, my only exposure to A/C would be this forum and the many threads of A/C builds...

I really think this costume would be perfect for so many different body types. The many layers and sectioned (lobstered) armour suggests the developers realized that not all bodies are similar. Suspending my disbelief, I have to think assassins come in all shapes and sizes. I am a built(but portly)300+ lbs. and I wouldn't hesitate to make one fo these for myself, and I can guarantee it would not look silly at all.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-13-11 page.2)

SOTI- I'm more thinking that the sectioned armor is there because Ezio needs to be able to move around, seeing as he's scaling walls and such. If you can, check out the game series :)

The last coupel of days were spent working on sewing, bracers, and pauldrons!

I had to remake the large curved plate, because the other one was too small. I also shaped the mid arm plates, but will need to trim and shape these a little smaller to sit right.
pauldron3.jpg

The surface was scuffed with sandpaper to help epoxy adhere to it better
pauldron4.jpg

...and cut out the shape for the leather ( i cut it a little larger than the plate itself)
pauldron5.jpg

the leather was then wet and formed over the sintra plate. I used a pile of clamps to secure it, and scrap tagboard to prevent the clamps from leaving bitemarks on the leather.
pauldron7.jpg

I had found a while ago, that I could epoxy resin leather to things when its still damp, so I when it was partly dry, I glued it down to the plate & clamped it til it dried.
pauldron6.jpg

---------------------------------------------

Here's some of the pile of sewn panels for the acr sleeves. The one on teh left is sewn, then they were turned inside out. The stitchy swatch was a test because I'm still new at this, and needed to adjust the settings on my (sucky) sewing machine. I also am using a heavy thread for the embroidery
tunic10.jpg

after turning it inside out, I carefully sewed the edge flat
tunic11.jpg

The panels had a thick and a thin stitch sewn onto them, using the edge of the foot and other visual cues as a guide to align them straight
tunic12.jpg

after the stitch was done, I pulled the threads to the back, tied them off, and snipped the excess. Trying to keep this as clean as possible!
tunic13.jpg

Unfortunately, i had to hand embroider the little "tiickmarks" along the inside of the panels. blah. I quadrupled the thread up on the needle, to avoid having to stitch over each line multiple times. the edges were then butted together and sewn, making sure i sewed the inner layers together to hide the stitching.
tunic14.jpg

Here's one of the sleeves completed, and will return to the other one a little later.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-16-11 page.3)

alrighty.. got about a week left here, so this is a quickie post!

after dying the bracer (well, the panels i had done anyways), I sewed some fur down to it.. it took forever though, because it meant constant combing to keep it from getting jammed in the thread. Clamped the panel to two pieces of wood to make it a lil' easier to handle. maybe stabilizer for the next pass at this?
bracer12.jpg

and a test fit of the panels done so far. Need to sculpt & stamp the last two plates.
bracer13.jpg

quick general pic of what's done s far, pinned everything to my dummy. At this point, its a matter of replacing all the patterns with actual fabric and leather.

guh, 9 days left T_T

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-16-11 page.3)

Just curious... did you get my PM? I know you are an extremely busy person right now, but your patterns are among best I've seen so far! I am not in any kind of hurry, so I can wait until you have the time.I wish I had the first inkling of how you went about creating your patterns! I'm mostly a D-I-Y kind of guy, but I am a complete novice at sewing garments and making patterns.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-16-11 page.3)

yes, responded to the pm.

but regarding how i did the patterns, I made a post about how I created the patterns 5 posts ago on this thread. Please check page 2. Pretty much did the same thing that Burningleon did when he designed his.

As for sewing, I'm no expert, and pretty much looked at clothing that's out there (I'll go to a store and poke at the seams on clothing.. especially cats & jackets), and how that's sewn together, and experimented a lot.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-18-11 page.3)

Got your response, and it made me laugh! I responded as well and I'm afraid it comes across more snarky than intended. This is really awesome work, and instead of asking to be spoon-fed, I'll try to work out my own patterns.

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-18-11 page.3)

You're really inspiring. Using foam to create the patterns for sewing is pretty nifty. I'm going to keep that in mind for future projects. :)

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-18-11 page.3)

Waah it's so awesome! And I just noticed your wrist tattoo :D I'm so jelous xD

Re: Assassin's Creed series costume projects (updated on 7-18-11 page.3)

Are you getting all your references from pictures and in game content and then drawing the templates onto the cloth in order to make these intricate patterns before you sew them? Because omg I am an AC fan from playing all the games and from the costumes i've seen all online even the expensive ones you can buy from museumreplicas.com yours is by far 100x better than anything i've seen. I have to say you're doing it big and can't wait until you've finished this work of art because its going to be AMAZING. subscribed for sure this thread is HOT

p.s. that tattoo is the business
