Also, I may be squinting at pixels but there does seem to be something on the hero's scope knob mount in the same spot where the 'Pawn' blaster's serial number is... food for thought.
EDIT: As for why the numbers (if they indeed were on the Hero's scope knob) are more visible now than in the Bapty image, it may be because the numbers were simply "filled". Gun folks often rub things like coloured chalk or wax into the stampings and numbers of old guns to make them more visible/appealing, although it doesn't affect the condition or value. It just makes them easier to see in images or video.
Here is an example of a C96 with the stamping filled, funny enough!
