ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Also, I may be squinting at pixels but there does seem to be something on the hero's scope knob mount in the same spot where the 'Pawn' blaster's serial number is... food for thought.

EDIT: As for why the numbers (if they indeed were on the Hero's scope knob) are more visible now than in the Bapty image, it may be because the numbers were simply "filled". Gun folks often rub things like coloured chalk or wax into the stampings and numbers of old guns to make them more visible/appealing, although it doesn't affect the condition or value. It just makes them easier to see in images or video.

Here is an example of a C96 with the stamping filled, funny enough!

I think that the quantity of rows on the knobs may help as far as what type of knurl was used too, since they varied so much in size of nub. The round ones seem to have more per row from what I can see.
As Pat said, the wear alone can cause the hex-knurl to look rounded out as well.

But, this points out a dependency you noticed with the Pawn Stars scope vs. the Hero's scope, as well as the serial too..?
Hmm..

Vanitas ya it certainly looks like something could easily be there for sure. As far as the number being 9761 that’s just a guess on my part. The highlighting of the numbers though.. that makes perfect sense and could easily be the reason why it’s showing up on the pawn stars blaster.

All replicas aside. For what it’s worth I do think that pawn stars scope is legit. Sorry if I lead you to believe anything else. All the markings on it seem to line up nicely. Unless kpax had something to do with it. Ur scope replica is killer by the way. Nice work.

Wow, I never noticed the little "button"(?) on the side of the knob! I'm going blind here... ;) Sharp eyes folks!

deadbolt is this closer to what you mean by Hex? kpax i also added filets to them to help “wear” them down so they are more rounded. It’s not finished yet obviously but was curious if it’s more inline to what u mentioned earlier. Also I wanted 3 up top and 5 down below but that’s not possible if they are all to be the same size. Not to concerned with the 6 1/2 below as no picture I’ve seen really shows those details anyhow..

Not sure about the Knurl numbers but spacing may help. Thickness correct?

The fillets can help. How are you making this?
Printed? Metal?

Easy enough to sand the surface a bit for the flattened look. Some steel wool. Scotch Bright. Bing.

And don’t forget the droids… I mean knob stop!

Spent a lot of time today making a custom dovetail for my Field Marshal scope mount out of some scrap aluminum. Not fun! So now I got a nasty blister bubbling on my thumb :(

But the end result'll be worth it to have the crossbar/dovetail be more accurate!

It’s going to be printed. I’m designing it with a Resin SLS printer in mind. The details themselves will show up so I’m not to concerned about that. I’m just reworking some parts to make them look more cosmetically in line.

This is my old one and from this angle it works/looks pretty good. But the numbering and the knurling could be improved. It’s mostly how it sits on the saddle itself that I want to rework. Since I’m going to redesign it I figured why not improve the whole thing as well if possible

I’m just trying to create the best that I can. Please don’t take any offense but I’m not looking to use anyone else’s parts. I do appreciate the feed back but fully understand if you don’t want to. It’s all good. I’ll share what I come up with in end so you can see what I’m going for if at all curious.

I hope you were able to cut some of the corners off, and that you didn't bevel a dovetail from a full rectangle! Who am I kidding, I've done this. Some good smaller grit metal files take care of things quickly with aluminum, I dribble some rapid tap or WD 40 on there too while I'm doing it. Very therapeutic for me, filing metal by hand

Yeah; I've got a spare crossbar (I think it's one of DEC's) that I'm going to mount it too. One of the few gripes I have with Field Marshal's kit is that the dovetail is one solid piece with the crossbar, and at least on mine it was rather loose fitting to the scope mount. So I more or less took a bit of extra aluminum and roughly ground it to shape on the belt sander after taking some measurements.

It's still got a ways to go, but at least it's starting to look like something. Going slow so you don't ruin the whole thing really sucks when you're impatient and want to finish the dang thing ahaha

It looks great so far! Looks machine done to be honest, which I bet is a compliment

Remember to make a dimple for the cradle thumbscrew - I spent quite a bit of time trying to get it to stay put and Todd's costumes just milled a circle for it..

Ya the fact that it’s one piece kind of blows but it’s at least correct in how the holes are off set. They are not fully in the right place but it’s also not symmetrical which is more important IMHO anyways for the over all look.

But regardless great work on recreating that tail..(y)

Reworked the scope body a bit. Improved some of the cosmetic details as well like the “3x” font..
It says "3×" . The multiplication symbol × is distinct from the letter x.

That was wrong on my DEC scope replica: it bothered me so much that I spent a few hours sanding it down.
Since them I'm on a crusade against that typographical approximation.
