ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

This is a really amazing thread and I am so insanely jealous! I'm new here and really wishing I'd discovered this forum several months ago. Hell, years ago. The Han Solo ANH Hero Blaster is my Holy Grail prop. Green with envy and really impressed.

I've got a real Mauser C96 on the way and it's going to feel so left out.

Thanks to all of you who have done the years of research, experimenting, and building. Now I'll just get back to my little lightsaber build...

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

I'm sorry if this has been discussed earlier in the 79 pages of this topic, but since the MGC seem to near impossible to get, is the Denix a good substitute? I've read the Denix is quite larger than the actual gun, so I'm hoping to avoid a goofy looking build.

I apologize for my obvious noobness, as I'm just getting into building an accurate DL-44 and still learning.

Thanks!
Greg

I have both side by side in front of me as I type this and no... the Denix is NOT QUITE larger... its marginally larger. To me its not noticeable enough to discount the Denix for a build in any sense. For the price and availability, the denix is definitely a viable option.

Go denix, don't worry.

There are other reasons the MGC is preferable, but as rare as they are, you might as well save up for a real mauser in fair condition.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

Denix is probably what most will use simply because of the rarity of MGCs. The Denix is a fine starting point. There are pointers here about accurizing it. The overall size isn't too bad. The grips are slightly too large, but so are MGCs. Master Replica's first Solo blaster replica was a modified Denix.

Thank you both very much! I'll be buying my Denix then this coming Friday, Nd starting down the path that all of you fine people have so gloriously laid in front of me! I can't wait!

So far Amazon has the best prices on the Denix... and if you get a free trial of PRime you can get 2 day shipping for free.

What's amazon's price? I know Blast-Tech is selling them for $65 plus free ground shipping.

If amazon isn't too much more, I'd be willing to go there (I already pay for prime- I'm frequently on there haha).

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

I want to say Blast Tech quit selling the Denix a few years ago... It's just still listed on his site for some reason.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

Ah, still. It's only $5 more on amazon. And I get free fast shipping :)

So. Now the question remains- since I missed this run, where would one go for high quality parts and greebles?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

Just wait for the next run. He has slightly imperfect flash hiders on sale now.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

... a second run may be coming shortly as discussed in the FS thread. By next week we should know the hows and whys and costs...including wood grips for MGCs and C96s.

we also discussed the possibilities of the c96 replica which is doable. watch for interest threads...

I'm as giddy as a schoolboy. I can hardly wait for the updates.

here are some HD images of my in progress MGC mods... still adjusting some stuff and still need to sharpen up everything...but am trying to replicate the surface details and dimensions of the real c96/HERO.

Still need to re-cut the hammer details and trigger and make a new extractor ...without the pin in the bolt.

Gonna try to hide the trigger pin too!

Here's mine. I was lucky enough to get some leftovers from the run, and my bits are coming together.

So I lucked out with a rough scope mount (needed smoothing and filing), with steel top rings, an aluminum sleeve bull barrel, aluminum flash hider (I sold the inaccurate holes steel version I picked up), and for now I'm using a correllian exports resin grill.

So in the future from run 2 I will get whatever parts I'm missing in steel I think, and a grill to replace the resin one.

My real scope is the one I got from MR Sparkle, and while this variation isn't 100% accurate to the prop, for me its perfect for now. The front brass ring is thicker, and the Hensoldt Wetzlar text is on the opposite side. It IS the right scope and the knob has the correct knurling, but no numbers on top.

Its looks awesome, and all that's left now is finishing the scope mount and stripping and blueing the bottom of the MGC, and seeing what I can do to get the bull barrel to match.

I've got a steel correct flash hider on the way now, so I will swap that out with this aluminum one, once I blue it and weather it.
