...it's only a day away...

Ooh, time to start modding the MGC. I've been putting it off for months. No more excuses. :confused

Dave put up a nice video showing the knob assembly and caps.

check it out.

Looking good, Clutch! Glad to hear the grill fits nicely. :thumbsup

One thing to note though is the lip there at the front bottom of the mag-well on MGCs (where the bottom plate notches into) is a little taller and sticks out more than a real Mauser. So if you ever need your grill to slide lower on the mag-well at all, you can file and slim down that lip a little and refinish the area with a bottle of Aluminum Black.

Just wanted to mention in case the one-piece grills conflict with the MGC proportions at all.

Good luck and have fun with your builds, everyone!

Decisions, decisions. I love the way the scope looks as-is, but if I paint the brass parts, then they'll stick out like a sore thumb. I guess I'll end up painting the entire scope. Does anyone have good pics of the actual scope? Like up close of the dial and inside?

Got my parts today :) Very impressed with the workmanship (y)thumbsup

I couldn't wait and mocked things up a bit. The barrel piece slides in place very well and the set screws hold it in place quite nicely:

My scope fits quite well:

The scope rail is resting against the spacers:

I can post more detailed photos tomorrow if anyone is interested. The top picture was taken with a flash and I think it has more accurate colors.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved!

I always want more pics. I plan to wait until more experienced builders create their replicas and learn from them. The patina on my MGC is a very warm tone which I love. Would like to get something similar on these parts (except the flash hider) but not sure how. But then, if satin black is more accurate, that's the way to go.

That looks awesome, Dave! Very cool to see a mock up of the parts with your real Mauser and scope. :love

that sleeve barrel fits pretty sweet there Dave. Great modeling by Carson and great machining by DEC Dave.!

DEC Dave added those three set screws so you could easily center the bull barrel. Glad it fits so well!

Hows the Grill fit?

That really looks fantastic! Can't wait to get mine.
Getting giddy. :D

Here's a video of a partial field strip of the MGC.

I finally decided to break mine down. One thing I noticed is that you don't have this little tab on yours. It makes it impossible to assemble it the way you did. With mine, you have to 'hook' it into the upper first and then push that one tab back with a screwdriver to get the other to set in front of it.

I'm also wondering about the trigger. I can see no reason to have this spring-loaded sliver piece.

I'm thinking about filling all that in and resculpting around it. I'm also wondering if anyone has replaced their trigger with a real one? It sounds good, but I'm not sure if it would line up correctly.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

Good question. I have a real trigger here I was going to try with my mgc when it comes.

If that happens ill let you know.

Interesting variation. I wonder if yours is older or newer than mine?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Probably no way of knowing. I can't see what purpose that hook serves. Does the grill look low enough now? I've also added the wood grips. Don't know if I like them or not.

Pretty sure I didn't. Sounds like he wants a kit though.

My MGC came in the green box labeled from MGC Bondshop. It has the 9mm grips. I think this variant came later in the MGC run, but don't really know.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

...as far as the grill goes, it looks pretty good. I think the best way to position it is to use the disk sticker to place the grill.

The top edge of the disk should just overlap the bevel on the lower receiver and the center be at about the 4th fin from the top and the left edge about 1/16 inch from the grill edge.

Test it to see how you like it. You could also use a dividers or compass to find the center.

the grips could be nice if you fit them better. Gotta reshape the metal a bit.

Are those original, repros, Denix?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies FOUND, Update in 1st Post

They came off a denix. They are thinner than the MGC grips. After I re-finished and sealed them, the ridges kind of filled up a bit too. :(

Another thing you guys might want to do before painting is age the brass parts. I put mine in a sealed container of ammonia around lunch time and took them out after dinner. Rinse and give a final polish with fine steel wool. I managed to find some screws that set flatter than those supplied as well.

Un-aged vs. aged. (This was before the steel wool polishing.)

Dials. Photo makes them look darker than they really are.
