ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Here's some new news for the Barrel Sight/Greeblie that may aid in explaining it's true shape. The second photo is just my first guess of it's shape considering the low amount of reference available for it.

There does not seem to be any T Track or Antenna in the top shot. If it was T track/antenna and were there at the time of the shoot, you'd be able to see it in that shot for sure. Nice observation Carson.

Very confusing about that sight area.

Some pics show something some don't. Some production and some post.

That bottom pic is a hard nut to crack. wish it was cleaner. Could be a reflection but there is also a break in it so it looks solid.

There's got to be a clean shot of that area somewhere. Some one is holding out!

Any help will be....helpful.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

We may never know for sure, but the antenna seems likely to be present in that photo.

Based on the only good top photo we have access to, the Flash Hider is twisted to the right a little, and also looks to be in this other photo too.

It looks possible that the antenna is hidden just behind the Scope. What does everyone else think?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I agree that the antenna is and always probably will be the hardest detail to make out, next up being the grill.

It's just so hard to tell with anything more than a best guess. I'd say that it could be hidden behind the scope. There isn't much height to it and if the flat section of the t-track had been taken off, there's even less height.

Just want to say that you guys have done nothing short of a mountains worth of research and effort in completely dissecting this weapon. It really shows in the results of the renderings of the parts thus far. Kudos to all involved in making what will be the ultmate Han ANH!

What did you guys want caps of exactly?

Hidden.
MR already checked this photo when researching their replica matching the 3D model to this angle.
It looks weird because there is only one "antenna" on the left side. From this side of the gun at this angle you don't see anything.

CHRIS...You´re back! :thumbsup

Already reported you MIA ;)

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

What did you guys want caps of exactly?

There are the shots where Han and co. hide in the hidden compartments of the MF. When he gets out he is holding the blaster and waves it around a bit. There are good angles showing the top and both sides where we may see something. The reg DVD is way too grainiy. (about 1hr 08min in)

Looking for the front sight area - top and side.

Maybe the mount from the side etc.

There are also the shots where Han blasts his way out of the dock. I posted some caps of that a while back but the res was too low to see anything but the fact that Solo is a terrible shot and closes his eyes and points at the ceiling when he fires!

Any screen caps you can get will be appreciated! You can PM or email me the best resolution pics you get besides posting, so I can try to enhance them and blow them up.

Looking forward to seeing what you can get.

My ANH Blu won't play in my PC. I'm still trying to figure out the problem! ARGH!! :(

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

these are some of the shots I was looking for.

Any shot that shows the DL-44 well.

love the shot with Jaba. High Noon!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the input. I guess it just "seems" that the top of the T track, if still there in that shot, should be seen at the top edge of the FH because the center line can be seen. If the T Track was there at the height it is shown in the other images, you'd be able to see it in that shot... I think. Maybe it's a bit off or the entire piece was knocked off by the time that PR shot was taken.

It's a shame there isn't a better image of that LEFT side post production shot, the one with the green matrix background. Would tell a lot!

Also a better top shot of the one you posted as proof.

Is more of that shot available, like the mount area?

I think we have it nailed but more proof is always nice.

Again, Carson did a great job! All the parts match the screen pics exactly and now include all the newly discovered details!

can't wait to make some!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Having spent the better part of two years constructing a live-ammo-firing variant of the firearm used in the “Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV series, I’ve decided to set my sights to the stars and try my hand at constructing a live-ammo variant of the Han Solo DL-44 ANH Blaster.
With the purchase of a less-than-pristine Mauser C96 pistol accomplished, and guidance from an extremely friendly and knowledgeable forum member (ED-209), I began searching for the appropriate parts. So far, I’ve managed to successfully procure samples of the flash hider, grill and optics cradle/mount (even one of the original "Hensoldt & Wetzlar Ziel Dialyth 3x" scopes) all of which will be reproduced by my gunsmith from aluminum and/or steel.
While things are coming together from a components standpoint, I’m lacking two small albeit key components of information. So, I thought it best to appeal to theRPF forum members for guidance:
1) I need to know the DL-44’s overall length (the distance from the rear of the pistol grip to the end of the flash hider’s muzzle). That way, not only will my DL-44 be the exact size, should I decide to buy one of the replica holsters, I won’t have to be concerned with the barrel being too long and protruding from the holster.
2) In addition, I also need to know the distance between the end of the DL-44’s breech to where the flash hider mounts to the barrel. (In other words, the exposed potion many forum members have referred to in this discussion as being a bull barrel or untapered.) This measurement will tell me exactly where to cut my barrel in order to mount the flash hider. I’ve seen a photo with a measurement of 1.2 inches, but that seems too short.
Hopefully those of you who any of the variety of replicas, such as the Han Solo EliteEdition blaster, by Master Replicas can offer some insight

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Thanks everyone!

samcolt45, sounds like that's gonna be one cool blaster! Here's the measurements I get, hope they help. :thumbsup

From edge of breech/chamber opening to rear of Flash Hider = 1.55"

From rear of grip to Flash Hider muzzle = 11.3"

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Close to mine (43mm/293mm) - but to be honest, i´m not completly sure if it couldn´t be a few mm more.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

To clear the FH inside, I'd be at least 90mm+ from the chamber mouth (inside edge of the receiver) to the end of the barrel. That should bring the muzzle past to about the first holes in the FH.

Is that about right Carson?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

That seems right on, I get 91mm right to the first set of holes. :thumbsup
If the flash hider sizing is close, that sounds like a good/safe placement for a live firing replica.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Best I can do right now. For some reason I'm having trouble getting these shots in 1080.
