ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

I’m putting a new log on the fire here!

But I’m circling back to my DL-44. Reorganizing/remodeling my collection display and was thinking about giving my DL44 some cleaning and maybe updates.

But it got me thinking, was there ever a definitive consensus on whether or not the upper was painted? Or just the lower? I know there was some debate on this…

Or… was it even painted at all? Don’t think there was anything ever conclusive on those fronts and it’s always been subjective..

In those shots it doesn’t look like the paint we see in other places in ANH, that heavy lacquer. If epoxy is enough to strip some kind of heavy blueing that would be my guess!

Yea that’s what I thought! I didn’t know if maybe in the few years since I checked on this thread maybe something had been illuminated. Originally I went for replicating the hero but now I’m considering tweaking it to an idealized version. But more information is always good!

thd9791 what pics do u mean? Those above are the best ones available of the blaster in its final form that I’ve seen personally. Outside of the black and white pics that is but one can’t judge from those obviously. The top and lower look to be the same color while the heat sink certainly is black. Strong contrast in color between the 3 (HSG, Top and Bottom) for sure regardless..

Here’s a couple more that may lead one to believe it might be black but it’s from the same photo shoot and there’s to much shade to make a real judgement. That and there is again the above pics which seem to show otherwise..

From the film itself it’s really hard to see but here is a pic from the Greedo scene..

also it looks like the fake hero is making its way back to the auction block..

The stock photo though is not the real prop nore the RIA prop either. Looks like they simply used a fan made prop lol

And isn't it interesting how they're trying to sell it for double what it sold for last time?

This is little different then the art market; it's all a speculative game of hot potato where each owner tries to sell it for more then what they bought it for. The same thing happened a few years ago in the retro video game market. It's all a sham.

Triple the price

I just read that they expect it to sell for $3 mil. Something is definitely fishy here. That mount and rail in that pic is the mount and rail I helped create for FM back in the day. You can see the rough casting marks on the mount and the offset rail. Unless that’s simply a stock photo and they will reveal the real photos/prop on the 26th. Curious to know what Frankenstein of a replica they think they truly have!? They couldn’t even get the bullbarrel on correctly in that pic!?

I’m sure they have tuned in here to find out what to correct on it… and then show “the real one” just before the auction to limit time to identify all the faults.

They learned from the Star Trek phaser fallout.

Shame on them.
Shame on any buyer too.
hey I just mentioned you in the first post on page 2 of that thread teecrooz linked! you guys designed the slip-fit bull barrel for replicas right? it's got one and I was like heeyy nowwww

Yes. Way back when I designed the slip over barrel and Dave at DEC made them. Made building the prop much easier without compromising the look or strength of the build.
Everyone and their brother has copied it… along with the “recoil booster” design to align the FH.

Can’t wait for more details on the “only remaining “ ANH blaster.

Til another non existent one appears.

kpax but urs actually fit/slid into place didn’t it? If put on a real Mauser or an MGC.. it would slide right up to where it should and stop perfectly in place. This one certainly doesn’t.
