Got to thinking about doing a nice display to compliment my recently acquired Mayberry Sheriff's Department Badge, and thought...why not do Barney's wallet? While it's never seen on the show, one has to assume he would have an ID card signifying his authority to enforce the laws of Mayberry, so here is my take on it. I plan on doing Andy's too at some point. I'll post photos of my display in the prop thread at some point after it's all done. For now, enjoy!

Here's the ID that is with my Mayberry Sheriff badge. They referred to Andy as Sheriff and Justice of the Peace on this one. I'll try to find the badge wallet and get a better pic. The logo looks like the one used on the Mayberry patrol cars and says "Sheriff Mayberry" on the ring area. The XXXX crosses out the word DEPUTY.

Miss that show. NICE JOB on the Barney ID. The ultimate law man!

Thank you sir! Having grown up in and around Mount Airy, NC (the real life Mayberry on which the show is based) spending summers with my grandparents, I always get drawn back to Andy Griffith and his portrayal of the types of values and moral compass a true lawman should have.

I did always find it odd though that the Town of Mayberry had a Sheriff, since in NC Sheriff's preside over Counties not Towns or Cities. Since Mayberry is referenced in at least one episode as being in the same County as Mount Pilot and in another Dobson, both of which in real life are in Surry County, one has to assume that it is not a County unto itself.

Anyway, tangent aside, I based my design on a real 1962 ID card from the Yadkin County Sheriff's Department, which shows the State Seal rather than a badge, which I think is kind of unique among police ID cards, especially those still in use today.

I love being on nightshift...having to stay up on my night off gives me lots of creative time!

Worked on Andy's ID card to match Barney's...the only thing I'm not super happy with is the fingerprint...got to find a better one rather than a simple mirror of Barney's. Maybe I can snag one tomorrow on the ol' LiveScan machine at work and save it to a thumb(no pun intended)drive.

Great IDs, thanks! I have changed the title to just the show name so that it can be for all AGS paper props.
