It's been mentioned many times but Once Upon A Time in the West is simply breathtaking.

The silent scene with Jack Elam and the fly

The Harmonica player: "No, you brought two too many..."

Henry Fonda as Frank with those piercing ice blue eyes uttering one of my all time favorite lines (which I am probably paraphrasing) "How can you trust a man who can't trust his own pants"

Also mad love for TM7, Silverado, both True Grit(s), The Wild Bunch and someone else mentioned Westworld...I loved that too!

I do too and I HATE (most) musicals.
To anyone who HASN'T seen "Paint Your Wagon", give it a shot... just watch for the story and try to ignore the songs (which aren't all that bad).
It's nowhere near as bad as The Simpsons made it look. :lol

I agree. I'm not big on a lot of musicals but this is one of the best. It's just one of those perfect movies to put on and relax to. I also have to vote for Support Your Local Sheriff. If tv shows counted I'd say James Garner as Maverick. We can't forget Blazing Saddles either.

But I love me some Clint Eastwood action, I really liked "For a Few Dollars More". I didnt like westerns til I was an adult, I have always been partial to Sci Fi.

I include Tombstone on my list, and mostly agree with you.

But there are some cringe-worthy sequences and scenes; mostly those involving Wyatt's brothers and the wives. Some of the dialogue amongst the Earp brothers and sisters-in-law can make you gag...

This is countered however by stunning performances by Boothe, Biehn, Kilmer, the actor playing Ike, etcetera.

Big fan of Westerns here. My favorites seem to fluctuate year to year, so I won't pin one down permanently. At the moment I'd pick The Searchers.

Okay with that said, it looks like there is another good Western on the horizon for us. >fingers crossed<

I came this " " close to being cast in Tombstone. It is still my favorite. I worked, as a kid, on The Searchers, and later in life on crew on the War Wagon, so I have a special place in my heart for those Westerns. As stated above, there are so many sub-genres within the Western film that it is hard to pick just one. I once did a comparison between Leone and Kurosawa for a film class. Samurai films are the westerns of Japan.
