Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

The films all have callbacks/echoes to each other, rehashed plot points are intentional throughout the entire series and will continue in VIII and IX

I understand that but I get so tired of it being too much at times, to much in your face, like I always cringe when I her the phrase; " I have a bad feeling about this" repeated over and over.

No, you are not the only one disappointed with TFA....and I still CANNOT believe why are all the professional critics gave it a good thumbs up. WHY?

Me either!

They must have very low expectations?

There are many who didn't rate it. I thought it could have been far better - not as though they didn't have time to think up a strong believable follow up, was it. I hate the way that they had to drag all the old cast back, what was the point of the droids in this film! I think by limiting the personnel it limits the scope of any story and voila!
The coincidenceses in a Universe so large the stolen Millennium gets caught up in a tractor beam from a ship owned by Han and Chewie. The next bit that followed was unnecessary and made it feel cheap.
Some of it was okay but it sure as hell is nowhere near as good as any review I read made it out to be. I think give it a couple of years and it will rank along side the PT.

Personally I liked the PT especially compared to this film.

Just like Star Trek I believe they only roll the original characters out to give the new franchise " an air respectability" and to introduce the characters that will proceed with future films.

I agree, what purpose did the droids have to the plot??

a lot of the "plot points" where cheap and formulaic and rather Disney"

Yeah, upon first viewing, I was very disappointed. But I saw it a second time, to give it a second chance. I wanted to like it... It is Star Wars after all. And, well, I didn't hate it as much. Everything they've said about it? It's all true. The plot parallels ANH to the point of plagiarism. Some things (like the much cited rathtars) just scream "this is not your Star Wars". Many of the criticisms leveled at the PT could easily be applied to TFA. Anakin's fall was too abrupt? How about Rey going from Luke ANH to ROTJ force abilities in one frickin' day!

Even if the PT was bad, at least it was the same kind of bad Lucas had always given us. There was some comfort in the familiar. I won't go as far as to say that the PT can be entirely forgiven, but I can honestly say I liked two of them better than TFA.

You put that so well!

but I have to say any and all of the PT was better than tfa! remember the lightsaber duel with Darth Maul?.........best lightsaber fight ever!

No, but you are the only person still who feels compelled to start their own thread despite the mods efforts to keep all comments in the TFA Release thread.

As I stated earlier, I wanted a place where those of us who were not thrilled with this movie could come and communicate without detracting or offending those that do love it!

Is there something wrong with having my own opinion?

to interject; not at all! the real point though was that we've been down this exact road already.
though admittedly, this one is a little calmer.

Thank you for saying because I am trying to be nice and as I said I really don't want to rain on anyone's parade.

I've just been so dumbfounded about the absolutely wonderful and positive feedback to this film.

Oh, and I apologize but I didn't see any of the other threads, but admittedly technology is not my forte.

The first one was plenty calm. There were just some hypersensitive individuals who took criticism leveled at TFA as a personal affront. The Mods didn't delete a single post in that thread, so let's not pretend anything against this site's guidelines was posted there.

Also, I hope everyone understands that I feel it would be the height of rudeness to grumble about tfa on the love forum or the bb-8 forum because those fans love this and should be allowed to do so without having to be subjected to negative feedback.

i don't think i went so far as to say it broke any guidelines and i don't think it did but i don't think it was calmer with all the teeth gnashing lol

you know, I love Star Wars! they are always my go to movies, but there have always been things that bothered me!

ANH and ESB where the best (imo) with the least things to complain about.

They were not specifically made for kids just as good movies that could be enjoyed by all ages.

IMO the problem started with ROTJ where everything that ate something burped loudly and don't even get me started on the ewoks!!

<my best Yoda voice>

Mmmmmmm,..........burps lead to ewoks!...........

ewoks lead to jar jar!...........

jar jar leads to suffering!

.........the dark side are they!

In episode 1 Qui Gon says to Obi Wan " we cannot use our powers to help her!"

talking about Padme. the looks exchanged in this scene made me want the films to explore a three way relationship (real or imagined) between Anakin, Padme, and Obi Wan.
It would have been way more of a reason Anakin would become pissed with Obi Wan and made for a far better movie (imo) BUT it would be far less kid friendly and they were and are the target audience after all!

an admission...............I loved the PT except jar jar and that horrible explanation of the force as something you could fin in a blood test!

George!!?? what were you thinking???

Welcome, you're not alone. Your are absolutely right. This is not "hate" it's straight up calling it like it is and it's ok that it was disappointing for some.
Our numbers seem small and we are taking lots of lightning right now for questioning The JJ.
We are avoiding being burned at the stake only because we are on the internet. LOL

i do think like posted before, this thread will probly be merged with the other one eventually so expect that, eh?
amusing you mentioned ewoks...i was going to ask you your opinion on them lol

I feel so much better now! I thought I was going crazy! it seemed like everyone was in total love with this film and worse yet would argue and belittle you for your opinion!

I liked the PT movies, while most do't seem to but I would NEVER attack insult people for this opinion!

glad to hear I am not the only one questioning jj's "vision"

If this thread is "merged" with the other one then the only reason can be to promote conflict, discord, and strife between people who ultimately share the same loves and I sure hope this is not true! I would like to think the RPF is above this kind of thing!

Actually I hope it isn't merged because it's nice to commiserate with the like minded, once it's merged that changes to....what's wrong with you! LOL well not quite like that but it feels like that.
