Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

I buy what JJ's saying about the Leia and Chewie scene, but the way it was staged didn't work.

Maybe it was in the cut scenes... But the way it stands now is one of the few issues I have with the flick.

what would have sold it, would have been to have seen more of Finn trying to help Chewie in that bunk after he was shot early on, then play it up later with Chewie bringing Fin into the falcon and into the same bunk, trying to help him.

Then when they land, Chewie does rush Fin out to that medical vehicle but then rode away with it and Fin. But after Chewie lays him on the medical vehicle thing, he sort of walks slowly behind it while Leia walks by without a glance. That's where it all falls apart.

If Chewie placed him down, some guy tried to pull Chewie away from Fin and Chewie just growled and got on the vehicle with him (like a friend getting in an ambulance), great! THEN have Leia come out and see Rey exiting the Falcon.

Leia and Rey didn't bother me at all. I don't need it spelled out for me, of course Leia knew her son kidnapped the girl that got Han back the Falcon. She knows who she is and that this would be a hard loss for her as well.

So really, it all comes down to that one awkward shot.... Chewie walking past Leia.

Yeah, I think it's a tough balancing act. If you do too much exposition, (A) your film drags on, and (B) it often feels unnatural within the narrative itself.

That's where Fury Road ruled! No exposition in that flick... just figure it out as you go along. No scenes of:

"Hey what are you doing?"

"Oh we worship engines and so I'm going to spray chrome paint over my mouth before I die to get me entrance into Valhalla"

"Oh... and why are we chasing this vehicle?"

"Oh... Furiosa kidnapped all the girls that Immortan Joe uses for breeding healthy children"

"Oh... and why is this dude strapped to our car?"

"I need him to live... Jeez just watch the friggin movie and shut up"

The problem is they should've called it Mad Charlize.

Because Max was completely overshadowed and forgettable in that film.

What a waste of 2 hours. The only thing redeeming about it was the guitar player, the guys swinging on poles, and the gorgeous Zoe.

Man, we are NOT having movie nights together, ever. :lol

Also, it was originally going to be called "Furiosa" (apparently) but much like the other "Mad Max" Films, they only got their green light after having Mad Max shoe horned in.

Lol...I'm pretty sure we could find some common ground. Here is my Top 30 ATF flicks. After the first ten or so, the order is less firm:

1) Star Wars
2) The Empire Strikes Back
3) Casablanca
4) Rocky
5) Excalibur
6) Young Frankenstein
7) Jaws
8) Rear Window
9) The Godfather
10) Gladiator
11) Notorious
12) Terminator 2
13) The Quiet Man
14) Caddyshack
15) The Shawshank Redemption
16) Terminator
17) Dumb and Dumber
18) The Ten Commandments
19) Dr. Strangelove
20) The Sound of Music
21) Jurassic Park
22) Raiders of the Lost Ark
23) Animal House
24) A Streetcar Named Desire
25) Oliver!
26) Singin' In The Rain
27) It's A Wonderful Life
28) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
29) Lawrence of Arabia
30) The Graduate

It's probably quite obvious that there's only 1 film on my list that came out in the last two decades. Only 1 film in the last two decades, do I deem an all time classic film. Pathetic. Hollywood has gone to schit; they've almost completely run out of ideas. Depressing.

I think the only one on the list there that makes me want to scratch my eyes out is Caddyshack... I can't figure why it's a classic. I just never found it funny...

If I gotta list (and this is starting to go a bit off thread....)

These are off the top of my head... clearly I'm a child of the 80's...

There are likely ones I'd kick myself for forgetting, but these are flicks I revisit regularly.

1. Bladerunner
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. High Fidelity
4. Rushmore
5. Chasing Amy
6. Aliens
7. The Abyss
8. Ghostbusters
9. Temple of Doom
10. Last Crusade
11. Raiders of the Lost Ark
12. THE FORCE AWAKENS
13. A New Hope
14. Return of the Jedi
15. Jaws
16. Before Sunrise
17. The Jerk
18. The Three Amigos
19. The Matrix
20. X-Men Days of Future Past
21. Chef
22. Mad Max Fury Road
23. The Incredibles
24. Vacation (original)
25. Ferris Buellers Day Off
26. Good Will Hunting
27. Swingers
28. Goonies
29. Karate Kid
30. Stand By Me

Well, I see a few head-scratchers there myself..not the least of which, TFA. But definitely some common ground, as I predicted.

Reading through the titles on your list, I was a bit surprised to not see Clerks make your Top 30. Not to mention that you don't have a single Arnold movie represented on your list. He, along with Stallone, dominated your decade of influence. No Terminator? No T2?? No Predator?

I would think a child of the '80's would a little young for those movies, especially the R rated ones. Now as a child of the 70's and teenager of the '80's heck yeah!

Yeah I was a kid who had nightmares at the drop of the hat, so my parents wouldn't let me watch R movies, heh. They were a little tired of me walking into their room at night terrified.

When I turned 13, Die Hard (WHICH SHOULD BE ON THERE) came out on VHS. I rented it, fell in love, and at that point I was all about the R rated.

Terminator 2 would be in the top 100, but I don't think to go to it when I'm itching to watch something for nostalgia...

Clerks is why I'm in the movie biz, so it should be on the list, but I would rank Chasing Amy higher... Love Ben Affleck. On the 20th anniversary Blu Ray, I'm on camera the whole time for the Q and A sitting next to the mic. I drove to LA with my business partner for the 20th anniversary screening at Vulgarthon cuz we first bonded over those flicks.

Stalone movies never really did it for me. at 6 I couldn't really get into Rocky... BUT...I did just download the whole series to rewatch now.

Problem is, now nearing 40, I still have the same terrible movie watching habits as when I was a kid. There are all of these new flicks playing in the theater that I need to check out, but instead I go and watch TFA 5 times.

As a 7 year old, I would sit every day and rewatch Star Wars. TV tray with Kraft dinner (I'm Canadian)... I was all set. 7 year old me would have loved TFA.\

Oh and last thing... I've never been into "10 little indian" movies. Meaning any movie where a group of people are hunted down one by one by some villain.

Predator falls under that. I want to love it, but it's just a count down movie.

I never thought of it this way, but I guess I love "10 Little Indian" movies. Lol

GOOOOO! RUNNNNNNN! GET TO DA CHOPPAHHHHHHHH!

Oh man... this sort of made my day.... ( I guess this is NSFA? - I forget sometimes... I'm working on a R rated movie about sausages trying to bang buns that erupts into a full blown food orgy)

I love their dissection of the Prequels... and I'm sure it will their TFA review will be more like Trek 09 (didn't hate it... but still ripped it apart).

However, Mike Stolska loved TFA.

"I loved it... it was everything I hoped it would be..."

Still, I've watched the Plinket reviews of other movies countless times. They should be shown in film school... Amazing breakdown of story.

ps~might wanna put a nsfw warning in your post, tho.

So marked.

I'm so desensitized at this point I didn't notice anything... was it the pee? ha.

No, it was a bunch of F-bombs.

It didn't bother me. I was just sayin' you oughta label it for others who work in offices and may need a warning.

Ha, yeah, I rewatched it after typing that.

Man... I don't even notice F-bombs anymore. It's terrible. My friend wanted to take his GF to deadpool... He's like "is there a lot of blood and swearing?"

"I know there's blood... CG blood... I don't really remember a lot of swearing".

Uh yeah there was.

i agree completely !!!!
That's similar to what I've been saying. I've had so many people ask me if I thought it was better than the originals. I realized when I left the theater after my first viewing that if you're looking for that high that you got from the OT as a kid, well... you better turn to heroin because you won't find it in the cinema. I really enjoyed TFA, but I realized that nothing will ever match that moment in my childhood when I first saw Star Wars. That's why I was so much happier the second time I left the theater. I had to ground myself back in reality and stop hoping TFA would somehow blow me away more than the first time I saw ANH.
