Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress .Now Ripley pack pics 4/02/09

Stev eis right, these RAF type "D" helmets are quite expensive, saw them auctioned for no less than 100GBP on eBay UK... Got mine for 120GBP many months ago...
:cry

Here are a few more pics of the inner helmets... (note that the earphones have been removed on the pic of Dallas)

I really like Lambert's helmet, she looks a little bit like a nun (or a outher space Joan of Arc) !

You're right : the QUADRILOGY DVD set ! (I have so many DVD versions of the first ALIEN that I never recall the exact name of each of them, must admit...)

Dave... I'm afraid Dave... my mind is going, I can feel it... Dave ?

These are all in the form of still images, possiby in the Legacy documentary, or in with the old Laserdisc extras which are reproduced on the DVDs.

They also might be shown during the documentary on the making of ALIEN.

Here are the adult suits showing up on the Nostromo set, but with what appear to be the kids' helmets and chest plates attached.

Shots like this are "continuity Polaroids", I think there's a section of those on there somewhere.

OK I popped in the 16 AA batteries required (!) and finally was able to demo the lights in my new ALIEN space suit helmet.

The telltales on the chin board and the back of the helmet, are quite bright! They really bring the helmet to life and make it resemble the prop even more.

My one disappointment, and I hesitate to call it that, is that the head lamp is not very bright. It lights up in what is visibly a row of LEDs, but it is not bright enough to function as a flashlight or lamp as the props in the film do. Still, it's a nice effect. The two systems, headlamp and telltales, can be switched on and off independently, so you don't have to light the headlamp if you don't want to.

The cover of the lamp is crooked in these shots, that's my bad for not bolting it down carefully. The lid actually does fit perfectly.

Same here, on both counts!

I was lucky enough to see this at DragonCon last year ('08) and to see it in the flesh (fibreglass) is simply amazing!

It really is a dream come true to have this piece. Wanted since 1979, now finally in my hands. :cool

Or frequently on my head! :D

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress .Now Ripley pack pics 4/02/09

Oh man!
This is one of the greatest props replicas ever.

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress .Now Ripley pack pics 4/02/09

We discussed brighter lights but really wanted to cut down on the heat build up that could acure in the lamp.

Re: Alien Enviromental Suit Progress .Now Ripley pack pics 4/02/09

Good call then. :thumbsup

I imagine the lights in the prop were some kind of floodlight powered by a wearable battery pack, and only operated for brief periods of time while the camera was rolling?

Excellent pics, Karl!
I just sent the final payment for my helmet a couple days ago.
I imagine it'll spend some time on my head as well, causing much eye-rolling from my wife. :lol
