OK back to the "snoopy cap" for under the helmet... I don't know what it really is. Some sort of aviator cap?
Cartwright seem to be wearing a different cap than Hurt and Skerritt.
But my favorite question is... what happened to Kane's cap aftter the facehugger got him? :eek

Hurt and Skerritt's caps don't look like AN-H-15s. They could have been modded, but it seems more likely these are a different model of summer-weight flight helmet. The white brim around the face looks as if it could have been an add-on. Could these be RAF caps? Richie, Steve, Fred, have you guys made a positive ID?
Cartwright's cap looks like something from Little House on the Prairie. Is there a chance this is Soviet-issue?
And Kane's cap after he was attacked... I always assumed it was eaten by the Hugger.

Those snaps at the right and left of the suit collar... are those for securing the helmet in place on the suit? Were there corresponding snaps on the inside of the helmet?

Yep, there are triangular tabs all around for attaching neck ring to helmet.

Its a direct statement from Bob Burns that the Lambert helmet was painted white and the lamp was removed to make the Ripley helmet.
Since its in his pocession I have to presume he knows what hes talking about.
Funny thing is..the Ripley back pack is one of the kids, most likely Dallas, pack painted white. Not the Lambert set ,as Bob Burns has it and its still complete.
The snaps go thru the neck ring(leather tabs) and pop rivot to the Hockey shoulder pads. This really adds some stability to the whole upper setup. Really it all comes off as one unit.
The Caps that Dallas and Kane are wearing are British summer flight helmets( sorry dont know the exact designation but Steve will chime in) while Lamberts we think is custom made.
The white brim at the front is a "sock" made of cotton that a lot of pilots wear to soak up some of the sweat.

Inner helmets:
WW2 RAF type "D" summer , They trimmed down the black receiveer holder to 1/2 inch. Bad Idea for our needs. Keep them as they are. No need to destroy a piece of history. it looks just fine the way they are I think
Inner white helmet WW2 USN white deck helmet with the eyelet strap removed. Again. just leave the strap on IMOP.

Both of these are rare helmet to find and can be expensive.

That's interesting about Ripley's backpack being the kids size. I often thought she didn't HAVE a back pack, it's so small. She definitely doesn't have the front pack. Since she has to act in that cramped Narcissus set, and strap herself into the chair for the big finale, it makes sense from a production standpoint.
That's probably why they removed the lamp too, she would have bumped her head every time on that door frame! :lol

The pack on the right is the Lambert adult pack.
Note the size difference of the bottom tubes.
