Alien Anthology Blu-ray features list

I may just buy the first two when they are available seperately. Never liked what they did to Hicks and Newt in part 3 - and that clone scene in Ressurection always makes me sick to my stomach for some reason.

Am I making things up, or did the crew who worked on the film receive a jacket with the number 8 on the wrist portion? That's not exactly the type of thing I would want as a keep sake, knowing that there are seven gooey deformed clones of me floating around somewhere in an orange jar.

Gosh, I can still remember the interview with Joss Whedon before I really started to take any notice of him.

"The studio came back to me with my draft and said 'this is really good. Only thing is, can you put Ripley in it?'" I want to see what that first draft was like since if it didn't involve Ripley, it wouldn't have involved cloning and it probably would have been a much better movie.

Monday is going to be a good day - Alien legacy, Back to the Future trilogy and Iron Man 2 on BD. Luckily I'm off work, it's a public holiday... may have to phone in sick on tuesday! :lol

T-Minus 3 Days!

The Digital Bits has just posted their review of the Alien Anthology set on their website and they're pretty impressed. I haven't seen them give a score to bonus features that had a A++ on them so this is going to be really something.

Review

Overview:
Film Ratings (I/II/III/IV): A+/A-/B-/C-

Now where the heck is that darn interview?!

Five, four, three, two, one...

YES!

Woohoo!

Just got done watching ALIENS and I was able to spot two visual corrections.

- Gearing Up: In both DVD releases, Ripley grabs a flamethrower, puts down a pulse rifle, grabs a pulse rifle and puts a flame thrower on top of the pulse rifle. This has been corrected!
- Bishop grabs Newt: Confirmed with my own eyes. The hole that Lance Henrickson reaches out of has been covered up and it looks quite nice.

And on a side note thanks to the vastly improved transfer, the Pulse Rifles look very Brown Bess.

I've gotten through about an 30 minutes of Alien3 so far. You ever hear the saying "Sound dominates picture"? It's the absolute truth with this new sound mix. One of my favorite things they did for the sound mix happens when the prisoners are salvaging the wrecked EEV. They actually took dialogue from the now unused theatrical cut and put it over the scenes where there wasn't any talking on the DVD. It was pretty clever.

More reports to come!

Also, if you need directions on what to look out for on the alien set that is really cool, check out Disc 6 and select the "PRODUCTION" section for Alien and Aliens. They got videos showing what was on the displays like the Purge screen, and even the camera footage from the marine helmets! And it's not just the snippets from what was used in the film either. Like when the marines investigate the melted grates on the floor, they also see that the walls have also been melted which you didn't get to see in the film. Pretty awesome stuff.

Would have been nice to have seen the video from the miniature Colony flyover.

If you check out the laster disc archives for Aliens, you do see a ton of miniature footage of the entire complex.

After watching Alien again, I kind of felt a sad absence of the Self-Destruct Countdown screen and the blue 0's and 1's from the SOS translation screen from the Video Display feature that's on the archive disc. Can't win them all, but it makes for a wicked cool screen saver!

Also you can recreate Ripley's hearing with the Nostromo crew rosters going on in the background! That was awesome. It's tiny pointless features like these that I love so much. I remember reading so many reviews of the Toy Story collection and how the Buzz Lightyear commercial was called "pointless", but I loved it!

:lol

Isn't that the truth? Cripes, after watching Wreckage and Rage I expected everyone to disown Alien3. I'm absolutely appalled that they still stand behind that piece of dren.

So what better way to move on from that wreckage by actually making a film that both acknowledges and follows it up? It's like the crew said "You know what was really wrong with Alien3? The color". So instead of the steamy warm orange color, the entire crew decided the best color scheme to fit their new movie would be fecal matter brown. We got brown costumes, brown colored hallways, brown colored guns, brown colored ships, and HOLY CRAP! Brown colored Aliens! Truly fitting for a film that is in on itself a piece of *$&@.

I guess the only good thing I got out of the whole experience is that awesome HBO "First Look" hosted by Ron Perlman. You can talk about how eggs work any day Ron. :thumbsup

I finally had the time to sit down and watch ALIEN. Man the picture quality is so amazing. I put in the extras disc and was skimming over stuff. Never heard the story about how O'Bannon got screwed over for credit. Glad he put up a fight. Every interview I ever heard he was always giving credit to who did what. mainly do disassociate what he didnt do.

As for resurrection? I saw it in the theatre and thought That wasn't so bad. But after every subsequent viewing hate it even more and I think I've watched it 4 times total. The last being the extended DVD release. Don't know what I hate more, the Ripley clone scene, main characters who are pretty crappy people who don't deserve to live after highjacking innocent people, or an alien creature more repulsive than scarry or intimidating.

But I do prefer the extended Alien 3 even though they never explain how Ripley got impregnated.

I have a bad feeling about this. thedigitalbits.com promised us a brand new interview with Charles de Laurizika in regards to this new BluRay set, but so far nothing. It's been over a month since the Anthology's release and I can't help but wonder if something bad happened.
