Alien (1979) Nostromo Crew Shoes Replicas

Eleven billionth minor update:

Got my PF Flyers today, but they're a bit of a close fit, and I'm not inclined to risk spending half a day in them an hour's drive (or more) away from home, so I'm going to send these back and go up half a size. Argh.

Here’s a slightly different, rarer photo of Dallas’ shoes if anyone wants to compare:

Actually, I’m pretty set on Dallas’ shoes being from Inter/Hi Tec. Here’s an image that shows not only the midsole (which is identical), but also the black logo which has been clearly painted over:

In the image I posted earlier, you can also see that the sole on Dallas’ shoes line up exactly with those on the Inter ones, which are noticeably different from any of the Bata shoes.

I bought some off eBay for less than $50. Not perfect but for my first attempt at these, I’m okay with them.

Shout out to everyone in the thread for your input and especially Mike J. for all the information on your shoes. Definitely helps now that I’m finally starting mine, lol.

Looks great!
Can you share what size d-rings you ended up with?
Also the glue to adhere the strips.

I'd love to give it a go :)

Many thanks!

Finally back on these… my D rings came in today, so I cut leather the perfect width to fit them.

I also determined the size of Chicago screws I need… maybe I can find them.

Shoes are leather; previously sprayed with Kilz primer. I will use the primer on the leather strips too, maybe the white D rings as well.

Total height of the material within the screws (in my case) is 0.320. That's two layers of the veg tanned leather and the original shoe eyelet, with moderate compression.

3/8 (.375) is too tall and 1/4 (.250) might be too small to get good thread engagement, but I'm going with 1/4 and probably a drop of locktite on each. Plus I'll crank them a bit. But I've also noticed that "1/4" fully closed height can be 5/16 actual, and that would be perfect if it works out that way.

Head diameter scales out at 0.300" (with my actual leather strips scaled against the closeup picture we have) and the ones I found are 9mm (0.354), so that's close enough. Stainless, according to the ad, so I'll spray them white too. Maybe I'll grit-blast the heads lightly so it grips well.

I had considered white plastic (like my D-rings), but I'm concerned about their durability.

Hello everyone. This forum thread has been great to follow. Through your posts, I have managed to make my own pair of Nostromo crew shoes. I used the PF Flyers shoes. For the D-rings (plastic) and leather strap, I sourced those from Aliexpress.us and for the rivets, I found some on Etsy. I am happy with how it all turned out. All that being said, I have some left over material I am wondering if anyone would like it. There are enough D-rings to make another pair of shoes and enough leather strap to make several pairs. I also have a couple of the rivets left over though only enough to make one side of one shoe. I don't need another pair of shoes and if I do, I have the sources to purchase again. First to say they want it, gets it. If you're wondering about the pants, I purchased the Nostromo Crew Uniform (pants, shirt and jacket) from Nostromocrew.com. Anyways, thanks again everyone for sharing your creations.
