Alien (1979) Nostromo Crew Shoes Replicas

Is anyone else having d-ring slip/ rotation issues? I used faux leather for my proof of concept and measurements (I'm waiting on my real leather to arrive) but the d rings keep slipping. should I use the marine vinyl? Also the "rivets" I'm using are Chicago screws should I also switch to the white plastic ones? (I don't want them breaking in regular use)
The white plastic rivets I found have worked great for years. Not sure what you mean about rotation; they do move a bit but that’s expected. The marine vinyl I used works fine along with the plastic rivets; I doubt they’ll break and even if they do you snap a new one in.

When you say 'slip/rotation' do you mean they turn 'sideways' inside the strap (so that the flat part of the 'D' becomes visible and the rounded part disappears inside the strap)? In my experience, the straps should be tight enough once the rivet is in to disallow that - they're quite short. Or do you mean the D-rings swivel around the flat part? In which case they should absolutely do that until the laces are tightened.

I used leather for my straps and the D-rings are quite tightly held. Like you, I used Chicago screws, and joberg is quite right, you'll need to paint them if you want them white. Mine are painted with a good primer and then three coats of gloss white acrylic, as are the D-rings.

View attachment 1862396Hello! Nice work! What are the length of your straps? and what dimensions for rivets?

Thank you!

Not sure if these are on the “close” list yet or not:

They're a good fit, love the toe detailing (something that's missing from my PF Flyers). Some of that extra stitch patterning could possibly be removed too (or just painted over).

To fit my base shoes (which are old Converse All-Stars) the straps are 10mm wide and 50mm long (before they're doubled over, obviously). The D-rings are 12mm. And the Chicago screws are M5 x 5mm (the head is 9mm wide). Hope this helps.
It does thank you very much!

I’m using Palladium Boots for my Nostromo Crew footwear. I have ordered D rings and leather straps. I still need to purchase Chicago screws. I have identical palladium boots but they’re tan. I will paint them white and use those as my con shoes and these white ones for display/photoshoots.

They’re not accurate nor I am going for screen accuracy. They just look really cool to me. I found them searching for boots to wear with my crew getup.

My wife will be using PF Flyers.

Thank you for all your help on this thread. I will be posting more if that’s ok?

Spotted these quite cheap if it's of use to anyone, have the look of the Nostromo shoes, mainly the detail around the front of the sole - nice and customisable base I'd say for not a lot of money. (UK)

That's a really good base shoe for those on a budget / those that haven't had any luck in finding the vintage shoes (or just don't want to mess with collectables).
