AA/SDS recasting issue...

Wow, I'm getting dizzy.....I think it is near impossible to determine an official stance on recasting when we cannot collectively and categorically define what "recasting" is....

Yeah. We certainly don't seem to have the same trouble defining "obfuscation" here though.

Cheers.

Shades of gray. You'll never be able to nail it down. I'm surprised this thread has gone on this long. Well, maybe not. :)

you know what really gets me?

some of you are so into deffending AA, and trying so hard to make a point, that you are pretty much pointing and waving your finger at everyone in this community.

you know what the real debate is... ???

finding the source of the various pieces.

be it ROTJ screen used armor or recast reworked then recast again (or however most of you are defining it in your heads)

and if some of the TE or GF stuff that was SCRATCH BUILT has the same charachteristics as the new SDS... then something is afoot.

thats it... thats all... thats all there is. period.

if you think that anyone that has ever reproduced a prop replica from a screen used piece is a bad person, due to this line of reasoning that many of you are using (and umm you are putting the mods in an awkward position) then i say dont let the door hit you on the way out. thats just my opinion, but i apreciate this place and the talented people here that bring us what we all LOVE accurate movie props, i just dont see how this recent line of thinking and debate is helping the community in ANY way shape or form.

I'm beginning to suspect they're both sockpuppets for "He whose name may not be spoken," and this is all a game to see how crazy he can get everyone. j/k :lol

and thats REAL bad. FYI

:lol

must we make a discussion about sds which has already transformed into a different debate into a completely useless discussion of semantics

Edit: spell check

Heh, duly noted, DARKSIDE72. :D

The real point here is the TK armor dealers here are playing the wining :cry sourpuss  because the original maker of the armor copied one of their modified ab plates....the recaster himself gets RECAST :unsure

That's the big joke here...so don't expect me to take these underground armor producers seriously, especially when they go through so much effort to expose the legal action against AA for such "noble" and unselfish reasons.... :angel

All recast means is to remake.

:cheers,

Thomas

Odd you feel that way about trooper armor but crusade for the vader helmet recasters recasting rights...

Expose what? The court case was made public on Court TV, it's hardly underground... If you believe keeping up to date with news that directly impacts this hobby is wrong, feel free to not read it...

And the truth is AA is nothing more or less then an underground armor producer himself...

Off topic:

GF made Trooper armor because he loved Stormtroopers. He wanted to provide the best available at the time. That was his number one goal above all else.

TE made trooper armor because he loved Stormtroopers. He wanted to provide the best available at the time. That was his number one goal above all else.

AA makes trooper armore because he loves money. That is his number one goal above all else. AA had absolutely no intention of making trooper anything until TE came to him, with the intention of attempting to make the best tropper armor available.

So, truth be told, I believe that AA couldn't give two rat farts in the wind about how "accurate" or what "original" moulds are/were being used. He's using what he's got, and that's pretty much the all and everything of it. Will we ever really know what he has in his possession? I highly doubt it.

I would personally feel weird about purchasing something so rare and personal from someone who just really doesn't care one way or another.

Anyways, I think that's a pretty valid point to bring up, in any case.

Continue on with your regularly scheduled arguement. ^_^

motorfish, i've been trying to say that but i think it slipped through the cracks. you are very right. SDS is in this for the money. That's why i pointed out that you cannot make the argument that he has a right to use what he can in order to improve his work. He does not care about his work he cares about the money it brings in. If he truly cared he would focus on being forward and making people aware of what they are buying.

In my mind it is okay to hype up your product, stand behind it, and make it sound like it is better than anything else, as long as this doesn't mean lying to your customer. If I say my armor is the best out there, that is okay. If I say my armor is an ANH suit made from ANH when it is really a ROTJ suit casted from someone elses ROTJ suit, that is a lie and NOT ok.

I think the real point they are trying to make is that AA is lying to everyone about where the armor came from.At least when dealing with other armor makers you know what you are getting.

sentence alone made it worth to break my silence - man that was good ...

Bingo...and one of the underlying causes for a lot of this strife. Competitors and their associates chiming in from the "underground" against someone who is brazenly selling and doing what they wish they could do. Or who tried to make/cut deals with AA and were rebuffed.

The truth is many involved are hardly doing this just for the sake of "love of the hobby" but have their own agendas, either as noted above or just to cause strife and conflict and would glom on to any issue that they just felt worthy of their time and attacks.
