A question about plaster casts

So, I was able to get my hands on an old 2 part plaster mold from a pottery shop. I would guess it was for slip casting.


here is my question. Is there any other material I could use in place of clay to make that casting? Is there something else that I could pour into that mold to make castings that wouldn't stick to the plaster?

Wax would work. Then you could make a better mold off of that.

Edit: BTW, you'll want to soak the mold in cold water first.

DOUBLE edit! You'll also want to set the mold to the side (or in the fridge if it's small enough) for several hours. An entire day to be safe.

If you only needed one cast, you could seal the plaster with spray paint, apply mold release, and cast in just about any rigid material (plaster, fiberglass, urethane resin). You might have to smash the plaster off depending on the undercuts.
