11th Doctor blue bowties / series 6 costume discussion

Very thorough Columbo (your namesake is done proud). I'd like to update the S6 breakdown with this info as well to show the (rather subtle) differences between these ties.
 
Well I'm all for spreading this information around to anyone who wants to know. Another thing I noticed is in the Children in Need special where the Doctor donates his clothes. He wears Red3 all through the episode but the close up of the tie thrown over the top of the screen looks to be the return of Red1 after a whole year out of use!

I expected the shots of the Doctor wearing his "hologram" clothes would just be Matt on the right spliced together with a shot of the same clothes hanging on the left. He actually has changed costume though and is wearing a different jacket and jeans from what he starts out in [but the same tie]. Easier to do a quick costume change than even a few simple split screen shots I guess because after all it was shot only the day before transmission.

Oh one more thing..... did I mention that the Doctor's boots in Series 6 are actually two slightly different pairs? :lol
 
That bow-tie looks more like the Tie 2 to me, but i guess you studied the red bow-ties a bit more than me. And also, with the two different boots, is it though all the series? Because otherwise he might just have accidently mixed a hero boot with a stunt double boot, in the rush of getting dressed.

Yeah I thought at first it was Red2 as well. Just can't seem to match up the shapes though. If Red2 did survive the soaking on Curse the shape could have been a bit changed but would it be so different? The weave pattern matches Red1 too so it looks more like being that one. Or a new one of exactly the same type. Series 7 started filming only a couple of months later and the first publicity shot released shows the self tie kind is back in use.

It's so rare to see the boots in any detail that I don't think it can be said exactly which ones are in every episode but publicity photos show Matt wearing two slightly different pairs. One pair has a double row of stitching where the others have only one.

Hmmm, maybe one is a proto-type, or a replica of another boot. Looking at Steve Ricks' website, where he sells boots from the original boot-makers. Making My 11th Doctor Costume: boots - Boots - BOOTS! They seem to be the pair on the right. Perhaps, although i doubt it, the boots are a replica of a vintage pair of boots or something, that is seen in the left picture. Not sure :/

EDIT: The other pair also seems to have round shoelaces, whereas, the left pair has flat shoelaces.
 
Sorry to keep on posting, but just found this picture from Series 7, where the doctor wears, in Columbu's name manner Red2:

He also seems to be wearing Red1 for some of the other pictures. Seems we'll get more reason to find/make this one.

That is DEFINTLY a new bow-tie, it almost looks like a sort of dark grey geen-blueish heavy wool fabric, looking at the band in the middle it seems to be made form a very heavy-weight fabric, and might even be a bat-wing ended bow-tie.
 
I just picked up one of those from Amazon and dyed it burgundy - turned out pretty nice although as we can see from Columbo's excellent close up pics, the tie isn't a marcella weave.
 
I purchased a pre-tied marcella tie on Ebay. It was actually a great find because based on the pictures shown, it has the same shape and size and even knot as the Who version. The weave may be incorrect, but from a few feet away it will look quite good - better than a non-woven plain tie.
 
The reason i posted about it in "New Green Coat" was because this thread is "Series 6 costume discussion" i just thought i'd be more appropiate to talk about it in the New Green Coat thread, since that's partly about the Series 7 costume.
 
Neither do i! They doesn't match his modern yet old look, i don't like those kind of suspenders even when not on the Doctor, it's a tasteless clash of old and new IMO. I did however, dig out some almost identical suspenders from "the back of the wardrobe" only different is mine has the leather buttony thingies, but i'm almost sure that's changeable.

It's not really the leather clip that bothers me - it's the wider width. Looks like they are now using the 1.5" instead of the skinny 1" suspenders.

If I recall, some of the earlier photos we've seen from filming show him still wearing the S5 & S6 suspenders. Maybe this is just an every-now-and-then wardrobe adjustment - like when he wears different pants and shirts.
Still though - not digging it (but then again, I said the same thing about his new tweed when it was first introduced) so I could be persuaded to change my mind.
